Cleveland - Tyrese Haliburton scored three points with 1.1 seconds left, with the Indiana Pacers finishing the final eight in 47.9 seconds to beat Tuesday night's short-handed and top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers 120-119 to lead 2-0 in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 2-0 lead.
In the last 12 minutes, Halliburton scored 11 out of 19 points. After Andrew Nembhard stole the inbound pass from Max Strus in Cleveland, Indiana tried to find a potential 3-pointer before Haliburton drove in and fouled.
He got his first free throw but missed the second. Haliburton made an offensive rebound and dribbled to the three-point line, where he took the offense from the top of the key.
Since 1997-98, the team has been 3-1,640 in the last minute of the fourth quarter or the last minute of overtime. The Pacers took those two wins in the playoffs.
In the first round, Indiana fell from 7 points in the last 40 seconds of overtime, defeating Milwaukee in Game 5 of the row. Halliburton also beat the game and scored a layup in the last few seconds. He was the second player in the game-by-game era (since 1997-98), and in the last two seconds of a single playoff, he scored multiple shots in the last two seconds of joining LeBron James in 2018.
Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said: "Obviously, we're lucky. "You don't see this often, let alone twice in a week. Tyres, he's here again. We are very lucky. ”
Myles Turner and Aaron Nesmith led Indiana No. 4 seed with 23 points Tuesday. This is the first two games of the playoff series since the first round against Orlando in 1994.
Donovan Mitchell scored 48 points for Cleveland, which lacked three key players, including two starters. NBA Defensive Player of the Year Evan Mobley (left ankle) and Key Reserve De'andre Hunter (right thumb) were injured in Game 1, while Darius Garland (left toe) missed his fourth playoff game.
"I feel like we've surpassed them for most of the game and then at the end we've got mental errors. They took advantage of every mistake we made," Jarrett Allen said.
Mitchell scored 15 points in the third quarter as the Cavaliers led 98-81 at the end of the period. But the Pacers bounced back 17-6 to return to the field.
Cleveland looked like there was some room to breathe, and Max Strus scored a 3-pointer with Mitchell's assist to get them 1:06 at 117-110.
However, the Cavaliers couldn't play again because they made two turnovers and the Pacers' offensive rebound led to the score in the last minute. It was the first time Cleveland lost the top two in the playoffs since the first round of the 1996 round of the Knicks.
"It's hard to say it all," Carlisle said. "Cleveland hit us with a tough punch early in the game. In the fourth, we just stuck. We kept enough energy to get it done. Give the guys, they found a way in some way."
