In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears welcomed eight new rookies to the roster, including a pair of nervous Colston Loveland and broad receiver Luther Burden III, with their first two choices.
Chicago also made a second round choice with offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo and defensive tackle Shemar Turner. The Bears also found some potential guard gems, defender Ruben Hebert II, cornerback Zah Frazier, defender Luke Newman and Day 3 running back Kyle Monangai.
Over the next few days, our Bears Wire Staff will share their thoughts on the 2025 rookie course. First: Our favorite draft pick, there is an overwhelming winner, another player worthy of the championship.
As a Michigan fan, I've seen Colston Loveland dominate for three seasons, just knowing he's going to be special in the next level. He is an elite athlete, an excellent route runner and the best catch finisher in this draft. All of those choices were Ben Johnson, and it was hard not to be excited when the Bears head coach envisioned Sam Laporta as Sam Laporta for Loveland. The fact that Loveland was able to flourish in Michigan last season when Michigan didn’t have enough quarterbacks was fascinating. Now, Loveland can catch the ball from Caleb Williams and play on Ben Johnson's offense. Talk about large-scale upgrades in the case.
By the time the Bears were ranked 10th, they had already chosen the defender and three tackles, so it didn't make much sense to choose the demand. I love that they brought upside with Colston Loveland and brought dynamic weapons into the fold, he had a lot. If anyone knows the close end, it is Ben Johnson. He has made the most of his career, a key reason why the Detroit Lions picked Sam Laporta. Loveland is a smooth route runner with excellent hands. Often, you won't see a tight end to a league that polishes like him. When he pairs with Cole Kmet, he will be a mismatch nightmare. I'm so happy to see how he fits into this offense and feels like the Bears will get the next big tension in the next few years. Their other first-round picks at the position (Mike Ditka and Greg Olsen) are also pretty good.
The reason Luther Burden is my favorite draft pick is because the other 31 teams passed the first round talent. The biggest choice to choose the burden is that he will now enter the league with the shoulders of chips, and he will enter a team with great offensive potential, and the coaching staff can get the most out of the roster. Everyone was knocking on the table to run, myself included. However, after Loveland, I was so excited about the future of Caleb Williams and this crime by Ben Johnson.
Of every Chicago Bears choice, Colston Loveland has the highest ceiling. There may be debates about the necessity of the first round, but the players they get are very good. If Caleb Williams becomes a star, Loveland will be one of many beneficiaries.
