Our favorite Afropop songs and albums so far

I'm glad to live in a large, busy, diverse, very scattered city in Atlanta where summer lawsuits will become very real. There are a lot of great DJs in the town, spinning all year round with various African and adjacent types - Afrobeats, Amapiano, Amapiano, African, Caribbean and Brazilian Dance Music and many more, but nationwide, it feels like these ideas are always summer especially suitable for these ideas. I'm worried that this can make African artists, stereotype, and kill their cross-border success, but I have some other ideas.

Over the past five years or so, we have seen stars like Wizkid, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, Uncle Waffles and even more emerging behaviours have been successful on the tour, radio stations and/or social media. Plus, so much African music Do Make you feel good Do Perfect soundtrack social occasion, frankly, yes When it's good, an atmosphere where you're getting rid of the stress. Finally, artists from all genres often speak out to make timely music playback in the summer. SZA originally planned for her hit album SOS Lowkey panics when she had to drop in December during the 2022 "SZA Summer". In the West, warm months are naturally a new experience for people in an era that are more free, more active and more open.

So, in order to expect what I hope is a summer full of Afropop Smashes, to celebrate the (crazy) of the last half year of celebration, I have named some of my favorite songs and albums in alphabetical order, as well as some spin-off scenes.

song

Black Sherif and Seyi Vibez, "City of Sin"
"City of Sin" is the real highlight of Ghana rapper Black Sherif's sophomore album Iron Boy. Although last year, Sharif told me that his follow-up date will be until 2022 The villain I've never had Probably not that heavy, Iron Boy In fact, it is full of serious themes and dense sounds. "City of Sin" is a very gratifying moment, even though he still sounds like he is balanced with tough times and choices.

Burna Boy and Travis Scott, “Tatune”
I love Travis Scott's hub to the continent. I love his Rema Fandom, I thought he ate on Asake's "Activity" and now he and Burna Boy are a great team on the latest single "Tatata" from the upcoming album No signs of weakness, It's scheduled to drop in July (Burna is perfect for summer drop-his last four albums are released between July and August). High octane Brazilian percussion, unabashed sexuality and humorous pop (“My path is my front, but I’ve been looking back at nyash’s nyash, it’s all for Nyash,” Burna reveals the song, making the song so interesting.

Dako, "That way"
Another thing I've always loved is that Afrobeats are backwards popular, artists like Rema and Darkoo attacked this type of means and aesthetics around the 2000s and early 2010s. Darkoo also has been in the dance hall of the era, brick and lace sampling hit single "Favorite Girl" and now is a music video for "Like Dat" which plays videos for Sean Paul and Sasha's "I Still Fall in Love with You in 2002". "Like DAT" and its distinctive, its distinctive, strict synthesiser took me back to Hall Parties of Yesteryear of Yesteryear parties.

Joé Finger Filé & Burn Boy, “4Kampé II”
The “4Kampé” by French Haitian singer Joé Dwèt Filé was already Kompa smashed, and Burna Boy jumped onto the track, filled with rolling drums, an exciting electric keyboard failure and Filé’s Slick Creole. With Burna Boy jumping around the track, paying tribute to Haitian and French-language African cultures and providing his iconic lyrical charm in English, this makes the diaspora’s relatives excited gatherings.

Lun, "pier"
Some of the tracks by British rapper Len made my love for Alté – often experimental pop music from Nigeria – include this one, which includes Nigerian Pidgin and video game synthesizer. It was cool, but urgent, Len whispered, all 86 seconds of the song I could listen to for a longer time. Last year, he told Face Nigeria's visit inspired his last solo album Cobalt: Somuchmore. "I've always wanted to try to bring things back to Africa - rhythm, buckling, all of that."

Olamidé and Wizkid, "Kai!"
Olamidé is silky and smooth on "kai!". This is his guest Wizkid's, the usual bag, but this song is better suited to the YBNL boss. He bent: "Mr. Bomb, Mr. Romance, African boy Wey Dey does magic / sits in a Porsche and stays in Rambo." Produces super decades, drips with saxophones, and gives a totally grand, luxurious and crisp linen suit.

Original Koffee, “Koffee”
Look, it is undeniable that African and Caribbean culture and music are biological siblings, so in the radiant spirit I really have to yell my girl Koffee because of about three years of rest and absolute heater, my girl is back on the scene. Ghana's producer Guiltybeatz (incredible, multifaceted musician, Tems collaborator, Beyoncé, etc.) brings her impeccable backdrop with simple percussion, sunken bass and rich Horns. Koffee has always been a skilled record Jay, evoking the flow of some of the best shows in the dance hall and the best rappers for hip-hop, but she is getting more and more biting here, possessing the scale of her influence and achievements.

Rema, “Baby (This is a crime)”
Since his sophomore album was successful, "Baby (It's Crime)" is Rema's first single Heycompared to Frenetic, heavy albums, it's Uber-Cool and Chalant. Before the release of the song in February, his fans have been clamoring for the Sade Sampling track since the November mocking clip. The full version is best found in Rema. "The biggest debut of my career." He told me that it fell that day and we talked about what he said Rolling stones cover. It made nearly 3 million streams on its first day, and as of March 2, it had added 27.2 million streams.

hallipopi, "rot"
Shallipopi is one of the coolest street pop music to appear from Nigeria in recent years, featuring Odumodublvck’s hit “Cast” and re-taken for his hometown of Benin City on Rema’s “Benin Boys.” He created another moment with "Laho", the laid-back national anthem, which took over African social media with authorized bars: "Happiness/Intercontinental/Monurial/Monurial/We Live Forever". Elsewhere, most of the song is played in his local language, Bini.

Solis4evr feat. ytboutthataction, “4K”
Solis4evr and Ytboutthataction channel’s tender confidence and confidence in “4K”, a fantastic, teenage party, Ytboutthataction promises: “I go to church and I will never chase you,” as she and Solis swiped away unfaithful friends and lovers, as a Lagos emerging artist, Solis on the streets of Cape Town asked strangers to judge the song by headphones, and her courtesy combined with the serious response from participants made it one of the musicians’ favorite social videos this year.

tiwa savage,"You 4 me”
Tiwa Savage has always had a strong R&B certificate, has written for Babyface, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa, and has a background in the Voice for Whitney Houston's final album Whitney Houston I'll see you. "You 4 Me" is a charming showcase on her side, sampling Tamia's hit single "So Into You" and making her own performance with Afrobeats Drums and singing with rapper's shaking.

Uncle Waffle's feat. Royal Musiq, Uncor Cool MC, Xduppy and Cowboii, "Let him"
As a DJ and producer, Uncle Waff rarely misses it. Here she curated the tip crew of Royal Musiq, Uncor Musiq, Uncor Cool MC, Xduppy and Cowboii for one of her funniest songs - I love the fat, rounded corners of this song; like Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey went to Amapiano. I also love that cute, companion dance and it pops up - my favorite video is Tyla and her team hit it.

Album

David,,,,, 5ive
I like love songs 5ivelike Victoria Monét, drives “not knowing” and “not knowing” of sensuality. In fact, Davido clearly appears as a "lover boy" with two of Africa's best Tayc and Dadju. exist 5iveDavido celebrates the resilience of love, radiating her most important thing to his partner, and he can sing on "10 thousand kilograms". Aptly, the album is at its best on songs like “CFMF” and the single “Funds,” where it trades the amapiano-indebted Afrobeats Davido has refined for refreshing romances with the warmth of previous hits of his like “Assurance” (a clear ode to his wife, Chioma), “Sweet in the Middle,” and “La La.”

myth,,,,, myth
Tanzanian singer-songwriter Hevi’s self-proclaimed EP is another romance-filled project that is both dedication and disappointment. Despite her sweet voice and classics shine on all five songs, the breeze’s serenade “My Rider” is one of my favorites. Her Cuth's way "I will never lose you/I choose you/Always be my family," melted me. Hevi appears only in 2023, marking her debut project, but her music exudes the grace and self-assurance of an old soul.

Obergneil, Heaven now
exist Heaven nowNigeria - The British style obongjayar weaves high school students, currents, various rocks and light raps together, making him sad on the tapestries, he breaks sadly, builds new relationships and claims himself. He intends to call the album Instant animalslike the collapse of the song of the same name on Paradise now, psychedelic jam session. He was thinking about the meaning of truly surrendering to a moment. But instead, he named after a series of parties, he tested the repertoire, turning the stimulation of live performance into the final stimulation in the wax figure.

Hot stories

Zinoleesky,,,,, Gen Z
Although 25-year-old Zinoleesky didn’t have the inevitable crossover success like his Nigerian street pop companion Asake, he cleverly called his sophomore effort Gen Z Proves the radiant smell of rich work, cool wit and youthful enthusiasm, which makes him loved at home. From his named "2baba flex", he is skillfully the master of all moods, he checks the stars of Afrobeats as a Golden Age to the sexy, electric "suits and tie" with hip-hop. The latter, along with links to British rapper MS Banks, proves that he is also a lovely collaborator. World domination may not be far away.

Made in Africa It's a monthly column Rolling stones From their perspective, the worker of the worker Mankaprr Conteh celebrates and inquire about the lives of African musicians, pays attention and innovates. Don't forget to take out the songs we played this month, and Made in Africa Playlist.
