Openai A cloud-based software engineering agent called Codex is being launched as a hype around construction software using AI, continuing to collect the pace. The tool is targeted more at professional coders than amateur ambience coders, and it will allow developers to automate their work in a safer and opaque way than existing tools.
OpenAI's code can be provided to ChatGpt Pro users from today through the network. It can generate lines of code, but it can also automate more work developers do when writing code through directories and running commands within a virtual machine.
"We will have a huge earthquake shift in how to maximize the developers' perspective," said Alexander Embiricos, a member of the OpenAI product team.
The latest models from competitors Anthropic and Google are already very skilled in coding. According to a report from information, the OpenAI launch has been expected to release powerful coding tools at next week's I/O event. According to many reports, Openai is negotiating to acquire Windsurf (formerly Codeium), a startup that has created a popular AI encoding tool for $3 billion.
A key challenge in VIBE encoding is that delegating AI can lead to opaque software and is more difficult to understand and fix as bugs spread. OpenAI said the model behind Codex has been trained to be trained to make it clearer what to do and help developers explain what they are building, and use virtual computers to make the system safer by design.
It is already possible to write and analyze code using Chatgpt and similar chatbots. OpenAI already provides code-based command-line tools that can generate code.
OpenAI calls the new Web-based Codex "before research" running its own mini-computer in the browser. This allows it to run commands, explore folders and files, and test its automatically written code.
“It’s really the way we think most developments will happen in the future,” Embiricos said. “The agents will work on their own computers and will delegate them.”
Openai said Codex is being used by external companies such as Cisco, Perimal, Superhuman and Kodiak.
Vibe encoding has become a phenomenon because a generation of AI models is very good at writing and fixing code. The same model also allows more skilled developers to speed up their work.
Over the past year, OpenAI has launched two other proxy AI tools: the operator, which controls web browsers and can automate online chores, as well as in-depth research that allows detailed web searches and analysis to compile reports.
Josh Tobin, who leads Openai's agent research team, said Codex reflects Chatgpt's larger vision of growing from a chatbot to a teammate. "We think Chatgpt will almost be like a virtual colleague," Tobin said. "The places you can go are not only to solve the answers to quick questions (but also to work with a lot of work in a variety of different tasks."
