Omar Sy's cameo in DJ Snake's "Patience" music video

DJ Snake launched a music video for his new song "Patience" on Thursday, a solo project
Advocacy information about the plight of immigration starring "Lupin" Omar Sy.

The song is a reimagining of West African music duo Amadou & Mariam’s famous 2008 song “Sabali”.

DJ Snake tells type By email. “One day, I played a loop from an edit that I’ve been doing for the team and everyone has the same thing: It’s special. That moment inspired the beginning of “patience.”

"But I don't want to release just one song," he added. "I feel the urge to have depth and purpose. The immigration crisis often diminishes to numbers and headlines, but behind it is stories of hope, loss and courage."

In addition to music videos, "Patience" also gave birth to a short film shot in Senegal type Already received an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary edit (pictured above).

The video and brief directed by Valentin Guidot, France, captures the emotional journey of a young African immigrant and shows cameo appearances from SY and Amadou & Mariam themselves. Sadly, Amadou died in April. The release of "patience" comes weeks after his death.

"Omar Sy is a close friend," said DJ Snake. "Having him involved brought a lot of heart and intention to the project."

Below, SY and type Regarding his collaboration on the “Patience” project, he also co-produced “To help the conversation become more visible and nuanced.”

In short, what made you want to take a cameo appearance in this project?

I want to be part of this project because it involves some deep humanity: the search for safety, dignity and a better life. Migration is often reduced to statistics or headlines, but behind every journey is a person, a story that brings the risk of hope or despair. I have witnessed first-hand how these stories are misunderstood, especially from a Western perspective.

So when DJ Snake and Born (Producer) approached me with this powerful and poetic work, which used music and emotions to change the narrative, I felt forced to take part in a cameo and co-produce this project with Senegal’s company to help the conversation become more visibility and nuance.

How long have you known DJ Snake?

Ten years ago, I met DJ Snake through mutual friends and we've been close since then. Over the years, we have done a lot of work together to support each other’s personal and professional projects. We also have the same sensitivity when it comes to important human reasons, so the "patience" video does come from a common connection.

As the second generation son of West African immigrants, what is your rapport with Senegal? How does it feel to shoot this work there?

As a son of West African immigrants, Senegal and Mauritanians, my roots are not only part of my story, but also part of my daily life. I go to Senegal several times a year and there is a home there and we set up a production company there as well. This is not just the place I visit, it is home!

Therefore, it is possible to shoot "patience" in Senegal in different ways. This is not to discover my roots, but to respect them. Stories about using yourself to articulate deeply important to me and my community.

What makes you the biggest immigration dilemma with the “patient” portrayed in the video.

What shocked me was the depth of sacrifice behind every immigration journey. No one chooses or leaves home, family and roots for comfort. It is a decision of urgency, danger and survival. This video makes your heartbroken. Meanwhile, it is a wake-up call for those who believe that Europe is the answer. What is waiting for is the loss of disillusionment, rejection, struggle and loss of dignity.

"Patience" shows both sides: the pain of leaving and the harsh truths that are often discovered. The atmosphere of the scene is a beautiful blend of joy and emotion. Director Valentin Guiot brings a poetic feel to his work. His gaze on frame and emotional depth is excellent.

Tell me more about the atmosphere on site.

We photographed in the center of the village, surrounded by locals who welcomed us with open arms. There is dancing, laughter, real connection. It feels like we are all part of the community. What’s striking is that we naturally adapt to the local rhythm. In Europe or the United States, time often feels like a pressure, like a game. However, time flows differently. It is more humane and more versatile. This shift in rhythm allows us to fully immerse ourselves creatively and emotionally.

Do you have any other ideas?

I just want to express my deepest gratitude to DJ Snake and the entire team for inviting me to this meaningful project. And thanks to the incredible actors Anna Thandoum and Alassane Diong, who I had the honor of working with, their talent and dedication bring authenticity and soul into the story. This journey was a collective effort and I am honored to share it with everyone. Special thanks to the people of Senegal for their warmth and generosity.

Finally, I want to dedicate this project to the recently passed away Amadou Bagayoko. He and his wife Mariam are the roots of this music project and are inspired and sampled by his own song "Sabali". Amadu is the true symbol of peace and love. Of course, my heart and mind were sent to his wife and musical companion Mariam.
