Bitter and joyful. That's how Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso won Sunday against Oregon's team at the Women's College World Series.
The Sooners eliminated the Ducks and earned a spot in the final four games of the WCW with a 4-1 victory. Oregon is coached by former OU player and assistant Melissa Lombardi.
Oklahoma will play Texas Tech on Monday. If the Sooners win the initial match against the Red Raiders, the two will meet again in the winner’s full game to become a place in the WCWS Championship Series.
However, Gasso has only positive words to say except Sunday's protein and looks forward to facing the top 12 opponents on Monday.
Sooners' huge victory. Personally, it's a bit bittersweet because these are the other end of me. It's hard to play on a platform like this, which means so much that it will end someone's season. It's hard, but it's very proud of those employees and everything they do, so it's very proud of Missy (Lombardi) coming back here in particular. She has been dreaming for a long time. I have experienced a lot of things to come here. Really happy for her. I think it all starts in the circle. (Kierston Deal) came out and handled her business really well. Give up running, but that was expected. We answered quickly. Then, I believe we had Sam (Landry) play a good match with their three holes and just let her ride. We are now sanitizing time, so you will do everything possible. Just so happy for Cyd Sanders. Her senior year, what a wonderful memory of these home runs. Really hit some of them in time. At the same time, we left a lot of runners on the base, but that means we have done a lot of work. Very happy. I'll tell you, straight up, we won a race, we walked over, we shook hands, we walked in the canoe like 'hey, OK' and I'm like 'you know what we just did? Does anyone know what we just did? We entered the last four. 'Yes, we're fine. We are swag. Stolen goods. I'm like, 'Someone celebrates. Can we do something interesting? They are just the most calm and calm. Sometimes I'm like, 'I don't know you know. Do you know? ' "Yes, we're fine." So I'm fine. Hopefully we will hold some large-scale celebrations in the future. But I'm really happy and proud.
(Affiliated head coach JT Gasso) There is a lot of work to keep going. I mean, we talked about the number of elite pitchers we faced and had some success. That's what we have to rely on. We will have to make some adjustments. But we are fighting. We are fighting for our lives now. That's what it looks like. It would be a struggle to say that we will not surrender for anyone or anything. That's how we deal with it.
I like where we are. I don't know how we pieced them together. But everyone is, they will undoubtedly clear their tanks.
This offense is very needed. CYD is exactly what you just saw. Very chill. Very easy-going. Not affected by anything. Just let her sway. Green is having a hard time. She is very strong. I will definitely face her tomorrow. But CYD is just humble. In the process of thinking, we were not all in trouble. She was just waiting for her moment.
OK, warming up will definitely be better. In the seventh round, they were distracted. They just looked around. They said something. They are just audiences sometimes. I don't need them like little kids in a canoe under 10 team, but I do need their attention. They are. They don't make too much noise sometimes. They create something every once in a while. Today, they are definitely more focused and prepared. They learned a valuable lesson. This is one thing we’re going to do this season, and it’s going to learn a lot of valuable lessons to help the team next year be much better than we did when we started. I'm great. I don't know how they feel. They share a lot. They just walked out of the fields, like, “What’s the place where we have supper?” and walked into the locker room. I'm like "good". I want to celebrate with someone, but it's clumsy, but at the same time it's weird. Try to figure it out.
It’s cool to see new faces because it brings more fans and fan base. I've known the Glasgow coach for a long time. I watched his career move around. He is an amazing coach. He really is. Something he pulled out of his hat was epic. He did it the right way. I really like to fight him because you know you're going to fight. Ole misses the same thing. I am also a Big 12 member for 30 years. To see a big 12 team coming here, this is a new name. For Big 12, this is really cool. Ole Miss just had a hot run. Sometimes it’s fun to follow those losers or miss those weak people like that. When you have a team at a World Series, experience - that's why I'm really excited for Missy because she really works hard. Her standards are very similar to mine, so she ended up putting her team here. I'm just watching. I'm a fan from afar. I'm really cheering them on. It takes education and takes her program to the next level.
Oh, I don't know. Impressive. The nine people left a deep impression. That's the character. Like, we won't resign. So I love, love, love it. But it's also nice to improve the trophy and take a easier route. I do respect the fact that our team fights their tails to the end.
I want to work hard for this. This is a good question. She is so different. She is completely different. Her pitcher was completely different from previous pitchers. And she was really showing off, she threw it very well tonight. Really good. I hope this will continue for her, just really have tunnel vision and blindness without having to worry about her girl being around her.
Thank you for asking this question. If you don't invest in Melissa Lombardi, you won't pay attention. Not only is she a great coach, very organized, but she is very good with busy, busy staff, but she is an extreme professional and does it the right way. Treat her players the right way. Expect to work hard on the court, but her players are also very grateful for our game and hope we are lucky. She is turning girls into women, and that's what we do at OU. That's what she came to OU, a girl who turned into a woman. She is one of the best there. There is no doubt.
