LAS VEGAS - Zach Hyman scored from above the upper right lap with 3:02 left to keep his team ahead, and the Edmonton Oilers gathered again in the playoffs to beat Vegas' Golden Knights 4-2 in the first game of the second round.
The Oilers are the defending Western Conference champions, falling from 2-0, and he won the fifth consecutive playoff comeback to set an NHL record.
"We're a patient team, a veteran team. The guys here have been playing a lot of playoffs in the playoffs over the years," said Edmonton defensive John Klingberg. "They know what they need. Just stick to our game and get the game by game."
In the last two stages, Vegas had only seven goals in goals, losing a playoff game in regulation after leading at least two goals for the first time. In the playoffs, the Golden Knights generally scored 47-4 and took this lead.
Leon Draisaitl had a goal and assist, with Corey Perry and Connor Brown. Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid each had two assists. McDavid now has four straight playoffs with at least 10 assists, finishing the fourth-largest title in league history. After the first phase, Calvin Pickard was hardly tested and obtained 15 photos.
“This gives you a great opportunity,” Heyman said of winning the opener. "You stole an ice rink and now, you have the opportunity to have both. We haven't been to that location quite often. It's great to get the first one out as soon as possible."
Mark Stone scored two goals for the Golden Knights, combining Jonathan Marchessault's franchise record with 36 points in his career in Vegas. It also expanded his target score streak to three games. Adin Hill made 24 saves.
The two star-studded top line scored twice in the first stage, the first of the double power match. Edmonton's top troop cuts the deficit in half, Perry teases off the Nets on the Hill, McDavid and Draisaitl get assists in the game.
Even though the Oilers outperformed Vegas with a 12-1 score, both teams scored in the second stage. The Golden Knights have never been hit less than two goals in the goal during the Regulation playoffs.
Edmonton didn't waste any chance early in the third quarter, scoring 57 seconds on a backhand rebound on Draisaitl and playing on the mountain.
Hyman had earlier taken root in Kaedan Korczak's face on his shift, breaking his tie in the closing ceremony, and Brown covered the victory after 1:16.
"We were everywhere for the first 10 minutes," Perry said in a conversation with Sportsnet after the victory. "But we found our foothold, we found our game. We started moving the puck and then playing. Then we played well on the defense and kept the puck out."
Golden Knights defender Alex Pietrangelo was not in the game due to illness, so Korczak was able to earn his first career playoff. Vegas hasn't had Pavel Dorofeyev, who led the team with 35 goals this season, the second straight game due to an undisclosed injury. Coach Bruce Cassidy describes him as everyday.
Game 2 was held Thursday night in Las Vegas.
