The National Women's Football League said it will give up future games to attack players with a life-threatening emergency and admitted that the game should end after the game collapsed on Friday in a May 9 game.

The game resumed in about 10 minutes of medical care, and the match between Angel City and The Utah Royals was completed. The king then underwent surgery, and after his collapse he found a heart abnormality.

The NWSL Players Association said this week that the game should not continue, with unions calling for future games to be abandoned due to emergencies.

"The Angel City and Utah Games last Friday night should not continue while reviewing our agreement and how it is implemented, and listening to feedback from stakeholders," NWSL said in a statement to ESPN on Friday. "The health and wellness of the entire NWSL community remains our top priority and in any similar situation, the game should and will be abandoned."

King collapsed with 15 minutes left on May 9. The 20-year-old was dragged out and taken to a local hospital in Los Angeles when Angel City said she responded quickly.

Angel City said Tuesday that the king had a “very good prognosis” after “doctors found a heart abnormality” and had surgery. Clubs, Leagues, Pennsylvania and family asked about the King’s privacy in separate statements.

Players from Angel City Football Club and Royal Utah Football Club visibly shaking when the Kings get medical care. After the game, players from both teams locked the weapons of the wild circle in prayer for the King.

"At that moment, I wasn't sure if we should continue playing," Utah head coach Jimmy Coenraets said. "You're emotionally - not only them, but our players are scared, and I don't think it's the right position, or the right situation. In the end, it's the decision someone is making. But I think it's really a tough time."

Angel City forward Christen Press, who scored a win in a 2-0 victory, called it a "real emotional game" after the game. “This is really something I can consider now.”

Washington spiritual forward Trinity Rodman suffered a back injury on Instagram.

Rodman wrote: “Pray for Savy King and her loved ones and players in that field.

King was the second pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft after playing for one season at the University of North Carolina. She traded from Bay FC to her hometown NWSL team Angel City during the offseason.
