NVIDIA (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang has received his first major salary bump since 2015.
Regulatory documents filed by NVIDIA on Thursday showed that in the fiscal year 2025 ended January 26, AI chipmakers raised Huang’s base salary by about 50% to $1.49 million.
"CC (the Board of Remuneration Committee) raised Mr. Huang's overall target salary by $7 million to align more closely with the median CEO of peers," the company said in a filing filed by the SEC on Thursday. Huang's new salary "is consistent with the 75th percentage point of his peers." The company wrote that Huang's new salary "is consistent with the peers' 75th percentage point."
“The CC believes that it is appropriate to consider the basic salary of other NEOs (the executive appointed as executives, or the highest-paid executives must disclose their compensation publicly), as this represents the first basic salary increase in Mr. Huang in 10 years.”
Huang's new salary matches the new salary of Broadcom (AVGO) CEO (AVGO) and Lisa Su, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) CEO.
The CEO's salary last jumped in 2015, when it rose 19% to over $998,000.
However, the salary may be only a small part of the compensation for senior technical executives. Although Huang's base salary is lower than Microsoft (MSFT) Satya Nadella and Apple (AAPL) Tim Cook in fiscal 2024, the latest figures for all three executives, he makes a living with a full package. Huang's actual salary was $234 million that year. Nadella and Cook received $171 million and $169 million, respectively.
Although Huang's salary is higher than those CEOs, he is well paid less than rival Broadcom's CEO Hock Tan, who made $1 billion in 2024.
NVIDIA, Apple and Microsoft have transformed into the most valuable companies in the world.
