Nottingham Forest: Evangelos Marinakis withdraws control of the club but will continue as owner | Football News

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis formally withdrew his position at Company House, thereby removing himself from the club.

The Greek billionaire still owns the forest, but he puts all the club’s shares in a blind trust, so he no longer has control or influence over the club’s daily operations.

Sky Sports News Being told this could be a temporary measure as there could be a conflict of interest with another club in the stable Olympics in Marinakis.

UEFA rules state that no one can control two clubs that compete in the same game, while both Forest and Olympics are pushing for the next season’s Champions League position.

The Olympics ranked first at the top of the Greek Premier League, while Forest will win the match against Brentford on Thursday, ranking third in the Premier League. Live in the sky.

“Marinakis remains the forest owner”

Rob Dorsett, senior reporter for Sky Sports News:

“It’s huge news that since he bought the club and saw Nottingham Forest, he has become a symbol of Nottingham Forest and has seen it grow in the Premier League and no longer control the club.

“UFA set a deadline at the end of April that every club in each competition meets these rules. That’s why the Forest had to make this decision. They have known for a while, but it’s very important.

“Evangelos Marinakis was never a board member, but appointed three new people – they were trustees of the blind trust and could control its shares.

“The three had to resign from the board because the UEFA and the company rules say that anyone with any trustee must be in the majority of the board of directors of any club. It’s a little complicated.

“Marinakis remains the owner of Nottingham Forest. He has not walked away or withdrawn his interests, but he no longer has daily control over the club.

"If Forests don't compete in the Champions League, they may revoke this decision. If Forests are not eligible for the Champions League, there is no need for this blind trust."
