South Bend Saint Joseph's baseball program is closely linked to the neighbor next door.
Former St. Joe Star Brady Gumpf and Jayce Lee They are all members of Notre Dame baseball team.
Gumpf is the Irish graduate outfielder and co-captain, while Lee is the freshman outfielder in coaching program Shawn Stieldler.
As of May 9, Gumpf had hit .221, three doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs. The former St. Joe’s outstanding person helped his reserve team win a Class 3A state championship in 2017. He is the son of John and Deanna Gapf. John is South Bend St.
Gumpf has performed well this season on May 9. He played three games in the seventh inning, walking home runs to end a 10-0 non-conference home win over Bowling Green.
Lee hit .237 with 1 doubles, two triples and four home runs in 14 RBI games. Lee is the Northern Indiana Conference MVP, and he is the 2024 senior Northern All-Star and the middle-year male athlete of the year for The Tribune.
In a non-conference match at South Bend, the Irish rose to 28-19 overall after winning 11-1 in eight innings. The Irish played 12-15 in the ACC for the ACC Championships held in Durham, North Carolina from May 20 to 25.
Alyssa Forys (New Prairie) Had an excellent junior season on the softball diamonds at Bethel University in Mishawaka.
Infielder Forys hit .371 for the pilot. She has 6 doubles, 17 scores and 11 RBIs with a base percentage of .440.
Bethel's roster also includes juniors Emily Kidwell (South Bend Adams), Senior Hannah Goldsborough (Elkhart) and sophomore Harmony Rooney (Penn).
The pilot is coached by former Goshen high school star Natalie Newell, and scored 11-39 and 6-30 in Crossroads League this spring.
The former regional player of the quartet is part of St. Mary's softball team in South Bend this spring.
Bell Roster includes premium Alexis Rauch (Niles), Junior Sophie Allen (Jimtown) And sophomore Allie Moss (Concord) and Adele Zurek (Northridge).
Rauch is an outfielder/first baseman who hits .266 with five doubles and nine hits. Allen is an outfielder, and he has played 16 games in doubles and 2 RBIs. Moss is a receiver/outfielder and Zurek is an outfielder.
Under first-year coach Jordyn Walter, Belles generally scored 10-20 and 4-12 league games. Walter played at Lake Michigan College and Western Michigan University. She also coached at LMC before being hired by St. Mary in 2024.
A pair of freshmen is the key to the Holy Cross Academy women's tennis team this season.
Duo Emery Porter (Bremen) and Maren Woelfer (Penn) It is part of Eric Mahones’s coaching program. The two led Olivet Nazarene 4-0 in the CCAC Championship game in late April and ranked first.
Mahones also serves as boys tennis coach for South Bend Saint Joseph's.
Ben Gregory (Penn) There was a strong junior season on the hills of Maryville University Baseball Program.
Junior right runner Gregory finished 6-3 with a 4.05 ERA. He played 12 games with 75 strikeouts and 16 walks in 66.2 innings.
Maryville, located in St. Louis, ended the overall 29-22 season with a 21-10 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Game 21-10.
