Nicolas Jackson: Enzo Maresca says he will talk to Chelsea forward after expensive red cards that could have been avoided | Football News

Enzo Maresca said Nicolas Jackson's high red card against Newcastle must be avoided, and he will talk to the Chelsea Striker.

Jackson was smashed in the first half and smashed his right forearm into the face of defender Sven Botman, Chelsea trailed after an early goal from Sandro Tonali.

Bruno Guimaraes won the second time for the hosts, struggling with 10 players in the second half but achieving a crucial victory in the Champions League.

"There is no doubt that the red card affects the game," Maresca said. "In this stadium against this team, it's already complicated, and if you give them an extra player, it's even more difficult. But overall, I think, especially in the second half, we have three big opportunities. There are 10 players, and that's not easy.

“In terms of red cards, I think if the referee decides to be a red card, it’s a red card. The only thing is that in some different stadiums, sometimes it’s more about whether to foul or not.

"And then I didn't (talk to him) with Nico, it's not the moment. Probably the next day, we're going to talk to Nico."

The football team on Sunday discussed Nicolas Jackson's "unconscious challenge" that led him to see the red in the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Newcastle.

Asked if he thought the family crowd affected the decision to red cards, Maresca said: "No, I don't think so. I don't think that. In the rest of the feeling, the feeling from the contact line is that sometimes the noise decides whether to foul."

Maresca hopes Jackson will now miss the last two games against Chelsea against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, where he will learn from the Red Card incident.

"What you have to do is avoid using this kind of thing because you need all the teams for the next game," Maresca said. "But it happened, and now he's going to go out for the rest of the season, hoping he can learn in the future.

"His season is over. He's our nine, he's our forward, the other is Marc Guiu, you know you've been injured in the last three months. He's coming back soon and we need to find different solutions in the last two games. They're both important games."
