New York Giants' third pick, Adbul Carter, wanted to wear Lawrence Taylor's retired No. 56 jersey, but Taylor refused. Fortunately for Carter, another giant's greatness might be more willing to cancel his jersey number.

Phil Simms, 69, said that giving up Carter or rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart's 11th place retirement will not bother him.

“Hey look, I told some of my friends around me and the people around me, ‘Oh, I’ll let him have it in a second.’ I said, “Can you help a little bit and make it better? ”

“I think it will be fun and won’t bother me.”

Sims said if Adbul Carter was going to ask for it, if it was up to him, he would give his jersey number, but his family and agent might not want him to give up.

Carter republished the clip of Simms, talking about unbuttoning the jersey.

"It's going to be a honor," Carter posted a phone number to X about wearing Simms.

If Simms does indeed call his retirement to Carter or Darts, that would be the number of rookies the Giants have not retired for the second consecutive year. Last season, the team's unretired Ray Flaherty ranked first for wide receiver Malik Nabers.

Flaherty's family allowed the Giants to cancel the Nabers' numbers, and they wore it. Nabers, as a rookie, set a franchise record for most receptions in 109 seasons in one season.

In 15 games, Nabors had 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns despite the lack of quarterback games.

Simms, who won the Giants' Super Bowl twice, became the Giants' starter 95-64 in his 14 seasons with the team.
