NFL legend Jim Marshall died at 87 after "long hospitalization"

The previous one Minnesota Vikings Jim Marshall, a member of the famous "Purple Man", died after a "long hospitalization."

He is 87 years old.

Marshall, a native of Kentucky, Ohio Alumni were drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 1960 NFL Draft and had a successful career of 20 years, mainly the Vikings.

"The entire Minnesota Vikings organization mourns Jim Marshall's losses. There is no ideal of resilience, friendliness and passion in the history of the Vikings than the history of Iron Man," the Vikings' ownership group said in a statement.

“From the beginning, Captain Jim’s unrivalled durability and quiet leadership have won respect from his teammates and opponents throughout his 20-year career.

College football player Chase Stegall, the son of former NFL Wide Out Milton Stegall, died at the age of 20.

"He has had a long and long influence on the Vikings. Jim will always be remembered as a great player and person. Our hearts are with all the loved ones of his wife Susan and Jim."

Marshall played 282 consecutive regular season games, setting an NFL record for position players, a record that remained until 2010 when Brett Favre broke it as a member of the Vikings. Marshall also set an NFL record with 29 career recovery.

Marshall has shown 19 of his 20 seasons with the Vikings. During this time, he was a key member of Minnesota's four Super Bowl appearances. He also won the NFL championship in 1969 a year before the merger.
