The unexpected decline of Sheduer Sanders from projected first-round picks to fifth-round picks was the most polarizing topic from last week's NFL draft.
ESPN's long-time draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is one of Sanders' staunch defenders, and the former Colorado star's fall into the Cleveland Browns' fall seems to put the broadcaster in an incredible state.
Shortly after Sanders' name stood out from the board, Kiper released the NFL franchise, which led to a clash between him and his colleagues taking over Davis.

Keeper said the NFL has been "ignorant" in evaluating quarterbacks for fifty years. Kiper Kiper seems even more confused as Sanders’ belief is “one of the toughest quarterbacks you’ve ever seen.” ”
NFL analyst Louis Riddick then explained to Kiper that the question is not about whether Sanders can play quarterback, but whether the team wants him from a team's perspective. Davis agreed with Riddick, adding: “The draft has been said.”
The spit on the air raised questions about whether there was some kind of hatred between Davis and Keeper. However, during a recent appearance on Outkick’s “Do not @ Me and Dan Dakich”, the ESPN “College GameDay” host made it clear that he had no problems with his colleagues.

Davis acknowledged that Kiper’s mission was to act as a draft analyst.

"First of all, I didn't do the thing that Pete Thamel accuses me, and I was there to say two things to someone and then offer something like criticism," Davis told Dukic. "But there are… (the fan numbers in Detroit's numbers) The reason for the previous year was largely due to what Mel did for the draft.
“Mer’s job is to make his players rank and defend them. And I don’t mind he disagrees, I don’t mind what he says when he’s there. But I think as a whole, part of what we overlook is the old Occam’s Razor philosophy – the most likely explanation is probably correct. We don’t know.

Davis later noted that Sanders had conducted extensive reviews of the pre-draft process, believing it could have played a role in the quarterback’s fall.
"But, it's almost certain that at that moment in the draft, something happened during the pre-drafting process, involving the Shedeur Sanders, which kept the team from taking him away," Davis added. "Now, if you say he's not currently the top 5 quarterback on the tapes, I think it's a reasonable debate.
“I’m not sure if he’s not the guy in the first or second round is reasonable. It seems a little unreasonable to me.

Davis said his relationship with Kiper is in a good position and he loves working with him.
"Good. Until I started to be like you said, I didn't even know there was a problem," he said. "It's kind of like what we do. Sometimes, for the benefit of the analysts themselves, for the good of the performance, you challenge their position. Mel's greatness. I love working with Mel. He's the reason that drafts are that, I think."
Shortly after Brown chose Sanders on the final day of the draft, he went to social media to share a brief but emotional message: “Thank God.”
Sanders ended the 2024 season with 4,134 pass yards. He will join Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel in Cleveland to join a crowded quarterback room.
