Neymar is in talks with three MLS teams over a possible transfer

Brazilian superstar and Al Hilal forward Neymar is in preliminary talks with three Major League Soccer teams, including the Chicago Fire, over a proposed transfer, sources told ESPN.

One source added that Inter Miami is currently not among the teams bidding for Neymar, while new Herons coach Javier Mascherano recently said that given the current restrictions in MLS , adding the Brazilian to Miami's roster is "impossible."

However, sources at ESPN Brazil have lowered expectations of Neymar moving to Major League Soccer. Those sources also added that he still hopes to sign former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in South Florida if he were to play in the United States.

The Flames declined comment when contacted by ESPN.

Neymar, 32, has had a difficult time at Al Hilal since joining the Saudi Arabian club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 for $97.6 million. Shortly after joining Al Hilal, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing for the national team.

Neymar returned to action in October, but a subsequent hamstring injury prevented him from contributing further this season. All in all, he has only played seven league and cup matches, scoring one goal in the AFC Champions League group stage match against Nasaj Mazandaran on October 3, 2023.

Even without Neymar, Al Hilal won the Saudi Professional League last season.

The former Barcelona star's contract runs until June 2025, meaning he can start talks with other teams over a new deal. Neymar remains one of the biggest names in the sport, thanks to his performances alongside Messi and Suarez at Barcelona from 2013-17.

During his time with the Catalan club, he led them to win the Champions League, two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey titles. He later moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and won 5 Ligue 1 titles, 3 French Cups and 2 League Cups.

Neymar began his career with Santos in 2009 and led Santos to win the Copa Libertadores in 2011, scoring in the 2-1 victory over Penarol in the second leg of the final.

In international competitions, Neymar played 128 times for Brazil and scored 79 goals. He won a gold medal with Brazil at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but has also been sidelined by injury in recent years.
