another Newark Liberty International Airport equipment interrupted On Sunday it caused widespread delays.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a third power outage occurred less than two weeks after the backup air traffic control system failed temporarily.
FAA confirmation There is another system interrupt On Sunday morning, but unlike the first two plants that control Newark Free’s operations, the latest operations involved a brief failure of the backup system, prompting a 45-minute ground stop to ensure that the system is backed up and functioning properly. The FAA said operations have returned to normal, but the flights have a domino effect.
So far, there have been more than 200 delays and at least 80 cancellations, affecting domestic and international flights. A saving grace seems to be Mother's Day, with fewer people in Terminal B.
In addition to system interruptions, Newark Freedom is also dealing with Shortage of air traffic control personnel. However, officials are assuring travelers that flights in and out of Newark are safe.
Sean Duffy, Secretary of Transportation, USA Say the solution to the airport problem is on the waybut in the next few weeks, the number of flights will be cut.
"We're going to reduce capabilities in Newark. I'm calling a meeting of all the airlines that serve Newark to let them agree on how to reduce capabilities," Duffy said. "We're building a new line directly from Newark to Philly Tracon, which controls New York airspace. What's going on now is from Newark to N90, which was where it used to be controlled and then to Philadelphia.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Fed needs to prioritize the situation in the Newark Liberty Bureau before the problem begins to pop up.
"So what's going on in Newark could happen nationwide," Schumer said. "So if they fix Newark quickly, they can learn from it, and they can also assure the public that they are in the most important attitude in things and actually know how to solve it. Not only do they say they're going to solve the problem, but they're actually the way to fix it."
He added: “The FAA has to put Newark first and must fix everything they have on Newark.
Passengers said their patience had run out.
"I have four kids here celebrating here, we won't be delaying here, not at home," Teah Thompson said of her hopeful trip to Georgia. "We have to stay overnight until 12 p.m. tomorrow."
Another traveler said: "This airport is terrible."
"The second delay we are delaying three delays," said Keirsten Jones of Los Angeles.
"Hopefully they'll figure it out soon because it's a huge airport and there are a lot of people here," said Mackenzie Holmes of Los Angeles.
