Just when you reach the fact that the deal is made, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been postponed until next year, with Rockstar Games coming up and throwing away a brand new trailer.

Last week, video game developers announced that the game has been pushed back to May 2026, which shocked their fans hope to land this fall.

It's been 12 years since the last GTA game was released, and the long wait for the most anticipated sequel of all time has become even more painful.

But earlier, the company released a new three-minute trailer that provided a bunch of new information for eager players while dissecting it.

Here are some highlights.

The first record-breaking trailer for GTA 6, published online in the second half of 2023, introduces the protagonists Jason and Lucia to a couple who live a criminal life in Leonida, a fictional match made in the United States.

Now, we know more about their backstory.

The new trailer opens before Jason drives, then before Vice City drives (a Miami-style location in the 2002 PlayStation 2 game).

According to Rockstar, Jason was a troubled teenager who joined the army to escape his adverse effects but fell into crime again after returning home.

In the trailer, he eventually collects Lucia from prison, who has been serving time for "protecting family."

From there, the clip will start to a montage of action sequences, romantic scenes and a wider world of the game.

We saw the couple conducting an armed robbery, partying on a yacht and riding Jasky together.

According to the description on the Rockstar website, the two wanted to forge a new life together, but after "easy scores went wrong", it fell into "the middle of a conspiracy."

Players also have to put names on some of the game's wider cast, including bank robber Raul Bautista, smuggler Brian Heder and rap group Combo Real Dimez.

Just like GTA 5, it is based on GTA 5 in and around Los Angeles, and the sequel also appears to include accurate entertainment for some of Florida’s most famous landmarks.

Vice City version of Miami Art Deco, Neon Waterfront Beach appears in the trailer, and Grassrivers Swampland is also inspired by the Florida Everglades.

Rockstar also revealed Leonida Keys, Industrial Ambrosia region, Sleazy Port Gellhorn and Mountain Kalaga National Park.

In each case, it suggests that these areas are home to different groups and factions, from “country mystics” to cycling gangs.

The trailer does not seem to contain any game videos, but rather consists of the movie sequences commonly seen between story missions.

But fans quickly praised the game's next-generation graphics in the trailer, as well as a series of screenshots published by Rockstar.

Video game trailers are sometimes created using a powerful PC, but there is a note at the end of the trailer saying that the scenes are taken from the PlayStation 5 console.

But this doesn't answer questions about new ways to interact with the game world, or whether players can switch between characters as much as possible in GTA 5.

The hype around GTA 6 is huge, with Rockstar having a form of delaying gaming and perfectionism reputation.

When the delay was announced last week, it told fans that extra time was needed to “delivery at the level of quality you expected and deserved.”

According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, delays also need to avoid "crunch" - a gaming industry term for overtime.

The company has been criticized by some staff before for accepting some "long hours" but says some accounts are exaggerated.

When the delay in GTA 6 was announced, Rockstar's parent company's stock gained two interactions, down 10%.

The industry has made a basis for gaming (originally available on Xbox and PlayStation 5 only) to boost console sales and break software sales records.

However, the GTA 6 has a solid date of May 26, 2026, meaning other publishers can now avoid releasing their own games at the same time.
