New study finds asexuality on the rise among young Americans

according to national family growth surveyAmericans don’t have as much sex as they used to. In fact, the country's asexuality rates have been rising steadily for some time.

The NSFG collects data annually on reproductive health, contraceptive use, pregnancy, infertility, family life, marriage, cohabitation and sexual behavior of men and women aged 15 to 49 years. This year, face-to-face interviews were conducted and a new online survey was provided to all participants.

According to the findings, asexuality increased significantly between the previous wave of surveys (2017 to 2019) and the most recent wave of surveys (2022 to 2023).

Between 2012 and 2014, men appeared to have had more sex than women. However, asexuality increased across the board between 2013 and 2023 for all adults ages 22 to 34, as more men and women said they had "never had sex" and "had not had sex in the past three months." ” and “Not having sex recently.” last year. What's more, the number of male and female respondents in the 22- to 34-year-old age group who said they were virgins also increased between the two waves. In 2022-2023, 10% of young men and 7% of women said they were virgins.
