New Orleans Prison escapes murder on the fifth day, murder suspect Corey Boyd is detained

Authorities said Tuesday that the fifth of the 10 prisoners who fled New Orleans prisons had been captured.

Louisiana State Police said Corey Boyd, who was briefly found last Friday after the escape, was detained.

Boyd, 19, was arrested in New Orleans. He is accused of killing Brandon in a 2024 car burglary.

"Boyd will eventually be shipped to a safe state facility outside the area and book a simple escape," state police said in a Facebook post.

Boyd was initially sentenced to jail for second-degree murder, attempting to murder second-degree murder, exacerbating the battery and threatening public officials.

The 10 inmates escaped the Orleans Parish Correctional Facilities Friday night, which is recorded in surveillance footage of the prison. Authorities said they climbed through a hole hidden behind the toilet, zoomed in, then jumped to the barbed wire fence of the prison, crossed the highway and entered the neighborhood and changed clothes.

Sterling Williams, 33, a maintenance worker in the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 10 principal charges for simple escape and posting, according to the Louisiana Attorney General. by Liz Murrill office.

Williams said he threatened to catch him if the inmate refused to help coordinate the escape.
