Theo was with Sciver-Brunt during the T20 series ending Monday, and Katherine served as a commentator for the BBC on Friday's first international match.

The match was England's first under the leadership of all-around player and new coach Charlotte Edwards, who were appointed Heather Knight and Jon Lewis after being fired in the aftermath of a fallout from last winter's ashes.

Katherine traveled with England throughout the winter pregnancy but stayed at home during the women's Premier League in February and March.

If she started working while Nat competed in India, her wife would not be home in time.

Nat is the first mother to play for England since Arran Brindle played the last international match in 2014.

Katherine Sciver-Brunt said: "There is a tough question for England with a conversation about the substitute captain of this series."

“But ultimately, Lotty (Edwards) wants Nat and I can’t deny her chances in the back end of her career.

“If I was unhappy or not sure, Nath wouldn’t do it.

Sciver-Brunt's comments were posted on the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday announced an update to its maternity policy.

Previously, England players received full salary in the first 13 weeks after the children, with a percentage of their salary thereafter, but now they will receive full paid leave of 12 months, as well as automatic contract extensions and support with parenting and breastfeeding facilities.

County players will receive six months of paid maternity leave as well as an extension of their contract.

Nat received egg cryotherapy last summer and said she wanted to bring a baby after her cricket career.

“When you talk about childbirth, it takes more than a year to get your body back to health and back to your own state,” Katherine said.

“You work so hard as a woman that this is in your career and then you have to question taking a step back and having to juggle a family.

“Even if you decide to extract and freeze the eggs, the time must be taken out.

“If you are a great athlete, you usually have a long career, but if you want to build a family.

“It normalized this conversation and inspired something people could do, and it needed more, and I think that would happen.”
