The year was 2019, with the president's promising Joe Biden running in Iowa. During the event, Biden struggled to remember the name of one of his aides, Mike Donilon.

question? The two have known each other since 1981, Donilon served as one of Biden’s closest aides in decades, and at one point there was a White House table just a few steps from the Oval Office.

This is one of several shocking moments reported in the new book Original Crime: President Biden's decline, conceals the catastrophic choice of running again, Written by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios. It chronicles Biden’s decline in time at the White House and the decline of his senior staff working to keep voters hidden.

Tapper and Thompson join All considerations Host Scott on Thursday discussed the process of writing the book and why they now think it is the process of publishing it correctly.

The upcoming book is Biden's personal office announced in a statement Sunday that he has been diagnosed with a "aggressive form" of prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bones. After discovering a prostate nodule, Biden, 82, was seen last week for further testing.

The diagnosis highlights the greatest vulnerability Biden faces during his tenure.

Despite the book, people around Biden defended him and his presidency.

"We are still waiting for someone, and anyone points out where Joe Biden has to make a presidential decision or make a presidential address because of the mental decline, he can't get the job done."

This interview has been edited in detail.

Highlights of the interview

On the night of presidential debate, this book was triggered:

tapper: My joint modulator Dana Bash and I have these iPads so we can write to people in the control room because obviously we can't talk to them, only one or two commercial breaks. I wrote, “Sacred Smoke,” in the first unbounded, terrible non-answer he said, “We finally defeated Medicare.” I couldn’t believe it.

I mean, we all see him aging. We all saw him tripping and wrong. We all saw evidence of the decline, but the Biden team, family and senior advisers are telling everyone, not only the media, not only the public, but also Democratic donors and members of Congress: "He's good. He's good. He's good. He's good. He's good."

Even today, the inner circle still thinks he could have won, still thinks he could have worked properly and did a great job by January 2029. At this point, it's just a delusion. I mean, we can look it. We talked to a top Democrat who saw what everyone saw: He didn’t look great. He is not in the most important place. Look, this is the people we have seen in public life. He has been in public life since 1972. So, we have seen his age.

When using the word "cover"

Thompson: If not cover-up, then why are so many people surprised by the debate? Starting in the fall of 2023, our report shows that according to interviews with more than 200 people, there are two bidens: there is a normal biden and notunction biden. That dates back to 2019. But he almost always operates Biden.

But starting from 2023, the ratio of this feature to non-function begins to change dramatically, and the ineffective Biden is getting worse and worse. The White House, people around - We have a senior White House official leaving because they are upset about what is going on and don't think he should run for reelection.

Crush: When you say there is no function. What is the best way to define this?

tapper: I describe it as being unable to come up with a top consultant or close friend’s name. What I want to say is that we are all humans. We all forgot our names. We all lost our thinking. We are all witnessed among the aging people.

We are talking about the point where you can’t have a conversation. You cannot submit data, information, knowledge, name should Ready to go.

When he didn't know George Clooney. It was not only someone he had known for over 15 years, not only someone who had a serious conversation with Darfur, not only someone raised millions of dollars for him, but also co-hosted the fundraising event with him. He is also one of the most well-known people in the world. So, what I'm talking about. I'm talking about what we see in the debate, that's invalid, I-Cannot-carticulate-A-Sendence biden.

Crush: You are talking about the frame of cover up. He is giving a speech. He appears in public. He is executing the presidency. However, as you reported, there was a consistent effort to block him. What is that assistant's circle doing?

Thompson: A top aide who left the White House said they deliberately blocked him from other members of the administration, other members of the cabinet, and other senior White House officials. The inner circle becomes smaller and smaller.

The White House official said it was intentional, so they were not aware of the extent of the decline. You also see the timelines become closer and more restricted.

Schedule has become more focused on ensuring that the public and other assistants do not see the non-functional Biden.

Crush: What is your theory that makes the most sense for how you achieve this?

tappper: We have a chapter in the book that introduces the legend of Joe Biden. I don't mean derogatory, but just the story, the myth of Joe Biden.

He has excellent abilities after being hit on the floor by fate, whether it is a debilitating stuttering or a terrible tragedy that causes the lives of his wife and daughter, or two brain aneurysms, etc.

He said in a memoir that “get up” was what his father once told him. This is how you measure men, your abilities get up. This has become not only a myth, but almost a theology. Like any theology, doubt is not allowed. That is Biden's inner circle.

"He can do it. He is a performer of a game. He will do it." Everyone declared him in 2008, and then he became the best vice president in history. Everyone declared him in 2019, 2020, and then defeated Donald Trump. He is the only one to beat Donald Trump. Theology takes root. This is the theology of the president of the United States. Who will challenge whom?

Crush: I want to end this interview the way you started the book.

tapper: He still thinks this. He still thinks he could have won. He continues view We believe that in order to remove the book. He was asked. "Well, look, I'm still 7 million more votes than Donald Trump," he said.

He is talking about the 2020 election.

I talked to his pollsters more than he ever had, and they didn't think so. When Chuck Schumer finally had a conversation with Biden, he said he thought Biden should quit. "I've talked to your pollsters. They give you a 5% chance to win," he said. Biden didn't know because all the votes were explained by the spinning sisters around him (Donilon) and (Steve) Ricchetti, and Biden heard that. When I talked to a poller about this story, 5% said it might be more like 1%.
