I am Ollie Madden, director of TV series at Movie 4 and Channel 4 and will leave the BBC in October to become the British Film Director of Netflix.
Madden will join the UK content team led by Anne Mensah in early October.
He will lead the British film Slate of the Ribbon and serve as the main liaison in Dan Lin's films, with intellectual property, talent and production located in the UK, and he will also develop a portfolio of works led by the filmmakers.
Madden has served as an executive and producer in films and high-end dramas. He said of his future role: “I’m very happy to have a Netflix movie business in the UK with Anne and Dan.”
"I'm proud to spend the last eight years with Film4, and recently, Channel 4 TV series, it's hard to say goodbye to all my amazing colleagues and projects," Madden said in a Channel 4 statement. "The independence, uniqueness and quality marks represented by Channel 4 and Channel 4 are a valuable thing and I believe it will continue to flourish long after leaving."
Channel 4 says in the employee memo obtained thr: "We are writing to let you know that after eight years of working with TV series director Ollie Madden of Movie 4 and Channel 4, he will leave us in October. Under Ollie's Leadershi, P Film4 supports a series of key and commercial destinies of many of today's most exciting directors, who have won award-winning films including 9 Oster WILS, including 9 Oscar wins wins wins. It added: “Ollie's commitment, password and report for nursery talent has seen Film4 not only work with some of the best-known writers and directors in the UK and Ireland but also cement our industry reputation as a huge champion of new talent, backing over 27 debug films and five series by debug writers throughout his Film4 tenure, including Molly Manning-Walker's How to Have Sex and Rose Glass' Saint Maud.”
The memo also said: "We are delighted that Farhana Bhula is the creative director and deputy director of Filhana Bhula, who will take over as interim director of Film4, effective from 1 to 1Yingshi July. Farhana worked with Ollie to create an ambitious, collaborative and artistic excellence culture, strengthening Film4’s reputation and becoming one of the most pioneering and dynamic teams in the business. Since the current slate represents everything that movie 4 represents, the team will continue to develop its strength under Farhana's leadership.
Since filming Channel 4 drama in early 2024, Ollie and the team have commissioned one of the most powerful dramas in Channel 4’s history, and from the beginning of next year, we have a good commitment to deliver a wonderful original drama to the audience. Stories from every country in the UK, written by diverse talent (both built and new) – will soon appear on the screen. A major new show by Russell T Davies, Daisy Haggard, Jack Thorne, Molly Manning-Walker and Roy Williams, and will soon be announced, showcasing Channel 4 to support great artists and outstanding work.
We have long been the champion of the most original writers and directors, and a series of performances to be played in 2026 and 2027, Channel 4's drama has achieved outstanding success in the years to come.
Drama commissioned editor Gwawr Lloyd has worked closely with Ollie for the past year and has worked with the channel for more than five years, overseeing acclaimed shows, including parties and a boy of somewhere. We are pleased that Gwawr will be the interim leader in reporting the drama to Ian Katz and will join his HODS.Yingshi July. Gwawr is passionate about the task of taking risks and is about how Channel 4 drama will continue to work with the best British talent, and this is our launch of a new drama film.
Ollie will continue to oversee the delivery of the project until October, working with Farhana along with Film4 Team and Gwawr and Channel 4 Theatre Team.
Although Farhana and Gwawr will supervise their respective teams alone, they will continue to work closely together to maximize synergy between talent relationships
