Drone overpass video for Omni La Costa North course PAR-3 16 holes
Omni La Costa hosts the NCAA Men's and Women's Golf Championships for the second consecutive year. The 16th hole on the North Route is the final par 3.
Carlsbad, California - Stanford University won the National Championship and is considered the greatest female college golf team ever.
The highest-ranked team in the United States did not lose games this season, but was only completed by Arizona State University thirty years ago. On Monday, at the live Omni La Costa Resort & Spa of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, Stanford completed its best 72-hole performance in NCAA Championship history, ending with a 27-under par and essentially becoming the best team in college golf.
But in the game, the best team in a stroke does not usually win the NCAA title.
Enter the northwest. The Wildcats won a tournament this year, losing to Stanford at NCAAS, completing nine goals behind the NCAA Norman area cardinal two weeks ago. But in the game, it doesn't matter, and Northwest will leave Carlsbad with its first national championship.
Northwest won the NCAA Women’s Championship on Wednesday, leading Stanford 3-2 in the game finals on a sunny afternoon north of San Diego. It was one of the biggest unpleasant situations in NCAAS history, with the Wildcats blocking Stanford’s second straight title, third in four years. A ruthless team that makes the most of the reset game offers, the Wildcats back to campus with extra hardware.
"It's surreal," said Northwest coach Emily Fletcher. "To be honest, things are being very slow right now. I don't think it really hit any of us."
"It's about doing what the group thinks can do, and that's all they do. They're not going out and proving anyone wrong. They're just going out and being themselves, just doing their best. That's enough."
Freshman Dianna Lee, about 25 miles from Omni La Costa, buried a 5-foot player on the 18th to beat Andrea Revuelta and make the Northwest distinction arguably the biggest frustration in women's college golf history.
Lee ranked 3 in five games but lost 14-15, and Revuelta scored a 4-foot PAR putt in the 3rd 16 to equalize the match but missed the match. Then, at 17, Lee had 15 feet of guys to win the game but drove the game in the hole. She took a deep breath, reminding herself of Northwest Sports Psychologists’ education on controlling emotions.
Exhausted comebacks. 1 Go to the 18th T-shirt.
Revuelta first entered the 5-screw and found the green back. Lee's shot wasn't on the dowel and somehow stayed on the green. She hit the first putter and drilled the hole, but the ball was traveling too fast and reached about 5 feet to the right. Then, Revuelta had a chance to play, but her putt didn't have enough pace and missed the low post. Lee gathers himself again, crosses the putter and knocks it down.
"I'm at such a high state now, especially in my hometown champions, which absolutely means everything to me," Lee said. "It's so special. There's nothing else. You can't even explain what it means to win in your hometown. It's like you're the main character. That's how I feel right now."
Freshman Hsin Tai Lin won the first Northwest Point on the board, surpassing Stanford freshman Meja Ortengren 3 and 2. But the bigger win that really changed the trend was Lauryn Nguyen, a senior from Seattle who had 2 holes and played with three holes, but her opponent was Paula Martin SampeDro won the NOS. But when Sampedro missed a birdie putt on 5-5, nguyen buried her from under the hole, followed by a fist pump and scream rumbling across the golf course.
Stanford hasn't finished yet, hitting back Kelly Xu to win her match 1 in the 18th Green. In the first game, Megha Ganne beat Ashley Yun 5 and 4, but the rest of the score was purple for most of the afternoon.
Northwest prevented Stanford’s second straight title and became the first team to win back-to-back since Duke in 2006-07 (Duke also won the championship in 2005).
"I just know that there are some coach Anne Walker," said Stanford coach Anne Walker. "You learn the most when you lose, right?" We haven't lost a lot yet. This is a great opportunity to grow from this moment. ”
All five starters in Stanford’s game will return next season. They will have the opportunity to build their own beginnings, but cannot complete them.
Entering the national championship, the Wildcats only competed once this year, and happened on another continent. Northwest scored 0-3-3 in the medal competition at St Andrews Link University in Scotland.
"We don't have a lot of experience in the game," Fletcher said. "Maybe it's a little favorable, and they don't really know what they're entering. They know what they need to do to take care of their business, and they do it."
Lee's putter and the image of the celebration will be remembered as David defeated Goliath.
