NCAA: Former football player opposes potential revenue sharing

Through a Supreme Court ruling, the age of athletes’ compensation in college sports may become more complicated.

The current zero-compensation system has actually faced its scrutiny since the summer of 2021. But directly paying athletes can almost eliminate the “amateurism” of the American college movement that has been historically defined.

Former NFL and college football player Jack Brewer strongly opposed the concept.

Brewer told Fox News numbers, “We need to go back to student-athletes.”

"If a person wants to make money freely and can use the sport to do that, then they should absolutely be able to - they can be in our professional leagues. But there is no place to pay unlimited money for people in college sports. They should be student athletes, and that's their signing."

Brewer believes that since legalization in 2021, income sharing will exacerbate the problem caused by zero - a decline in graduation rates.

“You will continue to see students who are no longer focused on the school because their motivation to go to college is no longer to get an education, but to make money,” Brewer said. “This is incorrect for college, and it is inappropriate to recruit student-athletes who no longer need to focus on the students.”
