(13) South View shot down in NCHSAA softball playoffs (20) Hoggard
South View took care of the business in the first round of the NCHSAA 4A East Softball Playoffs vs. Hoggard. Keep them out 4-0.
South View handled the business in the first round of the NCHSAA 4A Eastern Playoffs just days after winning its first conference championship in 20 years, beating Hoggard 4-0.
The Tigers' shutdown victory was made by teenager Duke committing 14 strikeouts from Jordynn Parnell, two runs driven by Kaylie Cook, and the other was Savanna Hardee.
The first round victory gave the Tigers a fifth straight win and a seventh of their last nine games, including last Friday’s United 8 Conference Championship win.
South View lost nearly a month ago to Purnell Swett in the last nine games, a "disappointing loss" that head coach Phil Dean classified as "a disappointing loss" as it pulled the Tigers out of the regular season conference title.
“You set the goal of winning the conference first, and then you want to win the conference championship,” Dean said.
After the loss, Nan Jing was forced to look in the mirror for a long time and focus on what they were outside of the offense if they wanted to win the game and play the Eastern Playoffs in the Deep 4A.
Dean said firmly: "We just surrendered and focused on defense. We didn't change our efforts on defense. It's all about representation. Dean, delegate, delegate," Dean said firmly.
Since the loss, the Tigers have not allowed more than two runs in six of their last seven games, except for throwing their own games to Cape Fear in the regular season.
"We just have to keep grinding - we have to keep working hard," Coach Dean said. "We've been sorting out good defensive ball games and hitting it in time."
South View ranked 13th in the second round of the 4A East playoffs will head to Greenville to face No. 4 DH Conley. The first pitch may be 6 pm
