D-Calif House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday that she hopes newly elected Pope Leo Xiv is the first American Pontiff to lead the Catholic Church, who will express his confession against mass deportation.
The account of Robert Prevost's name on the time was criticized by the Trump administration's immigration policies before sharing posts on social media.
"This new pope is said to be keenly aware of the conditions that force immigration, the vulnerability of forced immigration," MSNBC's Chris Jansing told Pelosi. "Do you think at this moment, when so many people are looking for him, he may affect the moral and moral voices on the issue we are dealing with, and when so many are deported or scared?"
"I certainly hope so," Pelosi replied.

Pope Leo brother John Prevost told CNN affiliate WBBM that he believes his brother is concerned about the way U.S. immigrated.
"I think he thinks that America is going in the wrong direction when it comes to immigration, which is totally unjust," said John Prevost. "These are people. It doesn't matter where they are born, they are people first. So, they need to be seen as people first."
