Nancy Mace faces trans suspect who threatens to kill her: "Not a joke"

Rep. RSS C. Nancy Mace praised a South Carolina judge on Friday after Bond was accused of threatening to assassinate her 19-year-old trans activist. She also held the suspect's father's hand.

Samuel Theodore Cain identified trans online and used the name "Roxie Wolfe" and on May 15, state agents were arrested by state agents on suspicion of publishing graphic threats against Metz and her children. Cain is still in custody and has not yet set a trial date.

The judge listed the severity of the threats at the hearing.

"Mr. Cain, I do believe you are a reliable threat and I will put you in a bondless position," the judge said. "The only condition I am going to sign now is that I have no contact with the victim."

Mace flew in from Washington DC to issue a victim impact statement in court Friday morning and then spoke to reporters.

"Today, I am not only a victim, but also a current member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and they have been targeting direct and credible threats to her life," she told the judge.

She described how threats forced her to change her routine, seek asylum and demanded the addition of law enforcement patrols for her family and the congressional office.

"It means I'm very vulnerable. My staff is vulnerable. My children are vulnerable," she said. "Threats like this are acts of terror and are designed to shake the foundations of democracy."

Outside the court, Mays reflected on Friday at a bond hearing and finally met in person.

"My first thought was that he was big," she said. "This guy is over 6 feet tall, over 200 pounds. I'm 5 feet 6 feet tall and weighs 115 pounds. He's twice as big. It's scary."

"As a mom, it's heartbreaking. All I can think of is his family. My kids. My kids live in fear of being murdered."

She said she was surprised by the judge's ruling, but thanked.

"I've seen how women are treated in this state. I hope this gives women hope," she said. "If there is a mentally ill person who comes to follow us, we need to defend our rights. That's the judge I see today."

After the hearing, Metz approached Cain's family and shook his father's hand.

She later posted on X: “I held the hand of a father’s father, whose son threatened to kill me, not out of forgiveness, but out of grace.

"I want to thank Samuel Cain's family," she said in a media speech. "Their humility means a lot to me. As moms, it means seeing what they show up. We are all humans. But such threats must have consequences."

Mays said the threat was discovered by Capitol police and was serious, with her staff and law enforcement begging her to arrive at a safe location.

"It's serious. No one knows where he is," she said. "The law enforcement told me to get inside immediately. It's true."

She describes the threat to the loss of daily life.

"I face threats every day. This is the second person this year. But I receive death threats from trans and trans people every day. And not the American attorneys in South Carolina or anywhere in the country take them seriously."

She warned that continued inaction could be fatal.

"One day, someone wants to pull the trigger. Some people want to pick up the bullet. Some people want to die."

She also highlighted a broader pattern of violence and called on her to see Democrats lacking responsibility.

"This case involves not only one person's threat. It's about a culture of violence against elected officials, especially women who speak out loud," Metz said. "We don't accept terror. The normalization of threats to civil servants corrupts democracy from within.

“No Democrat said it was wrong,” she added. “Only Democrats blame the victim.”

On social media, Mace shared a photo of Cain on her orange jumpsuit.

"This is not Roxie Wolfe, this is not a woman, threatening my life is not a joke. Looking at him with a silly smile."

Mace ended her statement in court and defended justice.

"I pray that this young man finds God and can only turn the heart of stone into flesh," she said. "Let him go away and convey the message that threatening to kill the MP is only another day without consequence. It's not. It's a sin. It must be treated like this."
