Other classic surfing brands, such as Hurley, O'Neill, Rip Curl and Billabong, are also all out on the Y2K trend. Recently, Hurley used the wink to 182 drummer (and well-intentioned expert) Travis Barker to help design the capsule collection.

Of course, these new Y2K inspired long boards are not Exactly Just like the guys Andy Irons and young Kelly Slater wear. They are more performance, utilizing more stretched, faster drying materials and fitting materials that are actually left on the waist when the duck dives.

As a Californian who grew up in Oughts, I was shocked by the current trend in Y2K summer suitcases and I have been obsessed with buying the perfect long board. In the future, I have sorted out some of the best Gemini to wear this summer - whether you're surfing, playing beach games or just hanging out.

Quiksilver's New Mercury Collection offers some of the best examples of a long board with a tasteful modernity. They come in several colors, but I especially like this black and red color. They are long, loose, but also lightweight. If you are wearing a slim, shorter trunk, consider lowering a certain size from your normal waist.

The punk-style look of these RIP curly Phantom Archives shorts seems to be popular: half the size is sold out. I love the side panels and the length of 22 inches, but I'm obsessed with the RIP curls logo that has style on my butt.

Now, they are cashing out some spreaders with pieces like these Fluid 2K Pro Boardshorts, with side stripes and branding, just like the original.

Volcom is now looking for the past. These J Robinson mod boards are proof. They put the brand’s diamonds on their legs and did some bold color blocking moves on their belts.

Boards are cool now, but some are also expensive. If you're looking for something easier to budget (but still should be the atmosphere), check out Phantom Eco Weekend Shorts from Hurley. They are currently for sale in Zappos for just $33.77 and have some interesting patterns.

If the sound over 20 inches sounds too down, grab these 19-inch RIP curly shorts. They have a backward ColorBlock look, but have a more similar fit to the modern board.

Another pair of more tame long boards are these Hurley One&Only. They are nice and long, but a little slim, and each style comes in a variety of colors. Be sure to increase the size by one or two, though, especially if your back is larger: their hips are a little tight.
