My comments and comparisons about streaming services

From sports to major news shows, most live content is still available only on traditional TV. I quickly realized this after cutting the wires on the cables and, like many, entered the world of live TV streaming services. It's a confusing space (that's why I write it a lot now), but two services stand out: Fubo and Sling.

Sling vs.Fubo: My comments and comparisons to streaming services

Slings offer customizable, budget-friendly packages for nearly every top channel.

advantage: Affordable, almost every major channel, customizable packaging
shortcoming: Limited local channel availability, no CBS, limited simultaneous account usage

Sling vs.Fubo: My comments and comparisons to streaming services

Fubo offers a wide array of channels at a reasonable price, including excellent local coverage and RSN.

advantage: Huge channel lineup, great local coverage, RSN, watch on 10 screens
shortcoming: No Warner Bros. Channel (TNT, CNN, TBS, etc.) is more expensive than slings

However, after reviewing the slings and Fubo, I realized that their prices, channel lineups and features are very different. If you make a decision between two services, continue reading. After spending time with both, my full sling is reviewed with Fubo.

Channel lineup, packages, pricing

The trickiest part of deciding between Fubo and Sling is understanding its different channel lineups and pricing options.

We have sorted out the complete failure below, but This is short:Fubo offers a large lineup of over 150 channels in its two packages (Pro and Elite), starting at $84.99 per month. Sling’s three packages simplify more than 45 channels, but they start to be much lower at $45.99 per month. Fubo does not come with Warner Bros. Discovery Channel (TNT, TBS, CNN, TRUTV, etc.) and the sling does not come with CBS.

This is a further breakdown of Fubo's packaging and price. Please note that the availability of channels depends on your region and sometimes requires regional sports fees at $15.99 per month.

Fubo Pro ($84.99 per month): Fubo’s entry-level plan is the Pro Package, which costs $84.99 per month. It comes with more than 150 channels, but depending on your area, it can reach up to more than 250. The Pro program offers nearly every major network, minus Warner Bros. discovery channel. You will find local channels, national and regional sports networks, news channels, and a large number of entertainment channels. Overall, this is a huge value, and there are very few channels missing.

Elite Fubo ($94.99 per month): Fubo Elite increases the number of channels to over 200, including channels such as Fubo’s Sports Plus NBA TV, Fubo News Channel and more entertainment channels. Elite Programs can also make some sports content available for 4K UHD live viewing.

fubo Latin ($14.99 per month): Fubo also offers a Latino package with over 50 Spanish channels, including Telemundo and Fox Deportes.

FUBO add-ons: FUBO subscribers can also upgrade their basic packages using multiple add-ons. The most straightforward thing is the Fubo Extra add-on, which sticks 50 channels into your lineup, including important channels like NBA TV, MLB Network, NHL Network, ESPNU, and BBC World News.

This is a further breakdown of Sling's packaging and price. Please note that channel availability depends on your region.

Sling orange: Sling Orange is the most affordable package for streaming, starting at $45.99 per month. The plan comes with 34 channels, including seven "exclusive" channels, meaning there are no channels available in the blue plan below. These exclusive channels are Disney Channel, ESPN, ESPN 4K, ESPN2, ESPN3, Freeform and Motortrend. The other 27 channels also have blue slings, including major networks such as AMC, TNT, HGTV, Lifetime and CNN.

Sling blue: Sling Blue is similar to Orange, starting at $45.99 per month. Sling Blue offers 14 exclusive channels including Fox News, Bravo, NFL Network and the United States. Additionally, it has 27 standard channels that are also carried with Sling Orange.

In some areas, Sling Blue also offers live local channels ABC, FOX and NBC. If you live in an area where these channels are available, the price of Sling Blue will increase to $50.99 per month.

Sling orange + blue: If you want slings to all the channels available in your area, check out the Orange + Blue Plan. If you live in an area where the sling does not carry a local channel, this package is $60.99 if you do.

Sling add-ons:Sling also offers some add-ons, including options for additional sports channels, entertainment networks and premium channels.

Interface, device compatibility

Both Fubo and Sling have familiar interfaces, just like traditional cable channel guides. Both are easy to navigate, especially if you cut the wire recently. Both also have shortcut options at the top of certain categories (movies, sports, news, etc.), as well as the way you like to love, making it easier to navigate to them in the future.

The compatibility of the device is almost the same on slings and FUBOs. Both can be used with all major smart TVs, streaming media, tablets and smartphones. Both are available on the Xbox console, although not on PlayStation or Nintendo devices.

In our opinion, one of the most important features of any streaming service is the number of screens you can stream at the same time. Fubo is the clear winner in the department, allowing Pro and Elite subscribers to watch up to 10 screens. This means you, your roommate or kids, and anyone else in the house can watch it at the same time on one account.

Slings allow one screen at a time, with orange, three with blue, and four with orange + blue.

Fubo also beats the sling of the record show, offering unlimited cloud DVR in each package. Sling offers 50 hours of DVR storage standard, with unlimited DVR spending $5 per month.

Deals and free trials

Both Sling and Fubo offer introductory deals to new subscribers. Fubo gains the advantage with a 7-day free trial, with a $20 discount on your Fubo Pro or Elite for the first month, or a $5 discount on your Fubo Latino for the first month.

As of writing, Sling doesn’t offer free trials for free, but they do offer a huge 50% discount on your first month. This has dropped the starting price of orange and blue to just $23, while the starting price of Sling Orange + Blue has dropped to $30.50.

Verdict: Sling and Fubo

Sling and Fubo are streaming services built for different types of users.

If you want a large lineup of channels, the ability to watch on several screens and a large number of DVRs at no extra cost, Fubo is the way to go. It offers more channels than any package of Sling and better coverage for local channels and RSNs. We also love that you get a free 7-day trial to check it out. A big drawback is Fubo's lack of TNT, TBS and other Warner Bros. Discovery Properties.

Sling vs.Fubo: My comments and comparisons to streaming services

If you want a lower, affordable live TV streaming service, Go to the sling. You have access to almost every necessary channel for large sports games and other live events, with the only exception being CBS. We also want Sling to offer a free trial to see it without risk, but its 50% introductory deal makes your first month very cheap.

Sling vs.Fubo: My comments and comparisons to streaming services

For my needs, the sling makes more sense. I just need the main channels for sports and large live events (such as awards ceremony) and I want to make as little money as possible. I don't have a big family either, so I rarely watch multiple screens at the same time.
