Jimmy Kimmel spoke at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on Monday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," noting how strange the ceremony turned out — like "our long country It’s like a nightmare being officially sworn in.”
"It's still hard to wrap your head around," he said of the fact that Trump, a convicted felon, was still reelected as president. The scam has already begun: selling the inaugural Bible and a new meme coin that has already made him a fortune.
"I hope we all understand how crazy it is," he said, "to have the president of the United States — following in the footsteps of the Hawk Tua girl."
As for the decision to hold the inauguration indoors in the cold weather, "They had to move the celebration indoors — which was actually better for Trump. It was harder for Melania to escape. "
Kimmel noted that President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden welcomed Trump and Melania Trump to the White House, but Trump rejected that tradition in 2021.
"Overall, unlike last time, there's a lot of respect for tradition," Kimmel said. "Kamala Harris invites J.D. Vance to the Vice President's residence at the Naval Observatory for a ceremonial ceremony with Millard Fillmore's pouf."
Kimmel noted that former Vice President Mike Pence did show up, but not his wife, Karen, who "chose not to celebrate the man who did such a great job against a pack of wild tigers that killed her husband."
As for Trump's second inaugural address, Kimmel noted that it was "more ominous than I expected."
"Emperor Palpatini's hand is back," he said. “This was not a rousing speech, or even a well-written one. Trump said twice that “America’s golden age begins now” — and he boasted of a landslide victory, but it was anything but landslide victory.

"A lot of people are wondering why all these rich people were invited to sit in the Capitol for the inauguration — there's a good explanation for that. Trump is selling this country to the highest bidder," Kimmel added road. "It's amazing to see these powerful people, who don't need to make another dollar in their lives, demeaning themselves to curry favor with this ridiculous man."
Kimmel said he thought Trump didn't seem happy: "I don't think he liked being in front of an audience that wasn't going to see 'Boy Rock,'" he said. "He was very low-key. Reading from a teleprompter. Maybe he was tired of all the winning. I don't know."
Kimmel then pointed out how Trump has signed a bunch of executive orders — and, of course, the hypocrisy of Republicans who have criticized Barack Obama in the past for signing far fewer executive orders. “Remember how angry Republicans were when a Democratic president issued an executive order? Neither were they.
"Trump also signed pardons for people convicted of the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Fifteen hundred of them. He did so in front of a large, cheering crowd. He criticized Joe in front of the same crowd. Biden pardoned his family. That’s the difference. Biden pardoned a bunch of people who didn’t commit the crime.”
