Morbido, screen section unveiled Latam type streaming, Umbra

Chilean investment firm Screen Capital has acquired Versatile Communications Inc. to launch the region’s first multi-platform hub, exclusively dedicated to horror and fantasy content. The initiative initially invested $2.5 million from Screen Capital’s Screen II fund, marking a groundbreaking enterprise with global ambitions in professional genre content.

Eduardo Caso, an industry veterinarian and the driving force behind the popular Mobido TV channel, is at the heart of this new effort. He told the new plan various inspirations. “In Latin America, there is a great demand for this type of content, but production and distribution are still limited. This gap provides an important opportunity to promote regional development of this type, especially with the support of investors at Screen Capital. With (Morbido Group Ceo) Pablo Guisa, we have been developing this idea for years and now we finally have the opportunity to bring it to life.”

At the heart of this new enterprise is the creation of Umbra, a horror and fantasy content ecosystem that includes a fast (free ad-supported TV) channel, AVOD (ad-based video on demand), SVOD (on-demand subscription video) and Lineareareareareareareareaharmorbido TV channel. Subscribers will access a comprehensive catalog including classic movies, original works, series, podcasts, audiobooks, and experimental formats.

The move also marks a significant expansion of the now-headquartered Mórbido TV Entertainment Spa, which will oversee global operations focused on talent development, project acquisition and regional distribution.

“It’s very attractive for Screen Capital to be able to access a market we’ve never explored before,” said Edgar Spielmann, partner at Screen Capital and board member of the new joint venture. “While it’s considered a niche, the numbers are surprising and one of the best performance professional content types in the region.”

The Screen Capital, co-founded by Joyce Zylberg and Tatiana Emden, is known for its businesses that blend technology and entertainment. The acquisition of multifunctional communications is the first investment in the Screen II fund, which is specifically targeting the intersection of such innovations.

Mórbido's partnership with Grupo Mórbido, Mantícora Distribución and the Wonderful Pavilion in the Marché Du film further strengthens the partnership between Grupo Mórbido. These strategic alliances will be integrated into an exclusive and constantly refreshing content pipeline.

The initiative is targeted at profitable people: Adults aged 25-44 years old come from middle- and upper-level backgrounds who demonstrate long-term loyalty and are willing to consume horror and fantasy content across multiple formats.

Through this investment, Screen Capital and Mórbido TV aim to transform the Umbra brand into a major destination for horror and fantasy in Latin America, setting new benchmarks for genre content distribution and creative development.
