Fifty years after its first release, Monty Python and the Holy Grail Still standing because it has a lofty place in the royal family of comedy movies.
The project was released in the United States by EMI Films, marking the first original work of the legendary British comedy troupe Monty Python's Flying Circus It consists of John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. Directed by Gilliam and Jones Holy Grail Follow Chapman as King Arthur, who pursues titular ships. It is considered one of the greatest comedy movies of all time.
In with Hollywood Reporterco-writer and star Star Cleese, in the case of how he will change the ending, members of the group have gone through all aspects over the years, and the fact that Hollywood no longer seems to prioritize comedy (“I was surprised that I wanted to see it,” he said of Netflix’s story about Netflix’s puberty), the influence on people who are "literally conscious" Harry Potter In the upcoming streaming series, memory is the almost headless Nick's voice.
How does it feel to reach a milestone in a still highly respected film?
This is extraordinary. Recently, the BBC conducted a poll of international film critics, No. 6 and 15 of the 50 best comedies of Python ever: (1979) Brian's Life He is 6 years old Holy Grail He is 15 years old. You are proud and happy. I don't take rankings very seriously, but there's a feeling that people know that one is best there, which is very satisfying.
Have you brought your favorite memories Holy Grail Go to the big screen?
We don't know what we're doing. We are very lucky. There are some very interesting materials in it Holy Grailwe merged it together somehow because Jones and Gillian managed to guide it. (There is) the usual python mess, where one crawled into the editing room and re-edited something while the other fell asleep upstairs, which is such a thing. ((laugh)
Then it opened, which was a total surprise blow. We were excited because it was the last thing we expected. When we started using Python, the general feeling was: "What are these people doing?" (BBC department head) ran into our director in the elevator and said: "Is this show supposed to be fun? I think it's awful." That's the head of the department. One consistent theme for almost everything I have is that the top 85% don't know what they are doing.
So many lines and scenes have become an indelible part of the culture.
I was impressed when the elder George Bush (who served as president) showed up with him in a pet shop with him, which was related to parrots (quoting the classic Monty Python sketch). I remember thinking suddenly, "Wow, we've arrived! We're in political comics." (and) more and more people, especially the Black Knight Sketch by Graham Chapman and me. People who won't lie down. It's very good because these phrases convey the language: "'tis is just a scratch." A few years ago, I cut a little precancerous thing off my arm in Los Angeles, and when the guy sewed it, he said, "'tis butch butch the scratch', and he walked out of the room. When these things came up in people's conversations, it was very good. Python is well known, although I don't think young people know about it.
Is there any reason, or is it just because a few years have passed?
I want to say that this is because American culture, not individuals, but American culture becomes more trivial. It's all about short-term attention span. There are more good shows on good topics on my day. People are making movies and TV themes right now and they just shocked me. Or someone wearing a cross Star Trek And the Medieval stuff - Add some flying dragons, do you know what I mean? That's it, or it's the most extraordinary, dirty thing I know is real, but why do people want to watch it on TV? Recent things that have been hugely successful recently - what is it called? Words about a boy who killed a girl?
puberty.
Yes, puberty. Tragic, absolutely tragic. But to my surprise, people want to see it. We all know that millions of people live in very difficult situations, but for me, I don't know that this is particularly good TV.
In the United States, comedy doesn’t come much in theaters or they just haven’t been produced, which is sad for me.
I disagree. Actually, I'm working for TV for three hours Chrys's Lifesomething with masses and lots of archives, because I have archives in my ears. What I did in the third show was to say that there was so little comedy and how pathetic the effect of comedy on people. Sometimes I go to these comics. There are a lot of people coming to me in large numbers and saying, “Thank you for helping me during my tough times.” Because when you smile, you shift your focus to a place where you can better deal with life problems. No one seems to realize this at the moment.
I totally agree.
Famous stories about the British Marines during World War II, at one point they began to be bombed by their own planes because some communication was completely wrong. ((laugh. . This humor, it brings us into a brave and more positive part.
We don't have that now because we have these people jump out and say, "That's not fun." A lot of the time, the problem is that they suffer from literal consciousness. There are some people who are thinking, especially in the Midwest, who are hard to find ironic people - you realize that these people aren't really metaphorized, and they don't really get the exaggeration of the comics. In other words, the meaning they get from the statement is very narrow. This is just a literal meaning, not a symbolic meaning, and has many meanings. They live their lives through this very debilitating range of emotions, just look at things literally and then try to tell those who are sarcastic and metaphorical that they should not be allowed to view.
if Holy Grail Is it in production today, will you get more notes or less freedom?
This is a good question. You know, the guy who told us (initially) was going to make 13 shows, I don't think he's going to fuck it. But what's really interesting now is that I can say "fuck." If I said "fuck" 40 years ago, traffic would have stopped. This way you always have this strange thing. There must be no saying something, many young people say to people of my age, “Oh, you can’t say that.” I want to say, “Well, I’ve been fluent for 80 years, and I don’t think people of your age should tell me what I can say.”
You said before, you don't like it Holy Grail. Do you still feel this way?
Yes. It’s no longer fun at the ending, and the ending is the best we can think of. This is a joke, it's too bad. I'm coming to the United States in the fall and we're showing Holy Grail Then answer the question. I have a version of the ending, and as far as I can tell, people prefer it to the original version. ((laugh. ) It was just cut. The original is just taking too long to try to make up for tensions, and it would be much better if edited. But I think the first hour or so of this movie is very interesting. It's a little behind, but I'm glad people love it very much.
With such an event, how does it make you feel about your relationship with other Python members?
If you look at the history of most groups, you will find that there are always arguments at some point, and I think we did a great job. But what people often don’t know about teams is that a team is not made up of all people who do the same thing. This is a group of people who are doing well.
(Terry) Gilliam did decide at a pretty early stage that he just wanted to direct the movie. Eric (idle) until The meaning of life Because Eric is very strong in music, especially the lyrics. Michael (Perlin), who has always loved traveling, has made some travel plans. Jones (aka Terry Jones) did all kinds of things. Chapman is really two people. He is a sober person in Chapman, a very good writer and a very good actor, and Chapman is drunk, he is not good at anything or remembers his lines. Even though I love comedy, I really enjoy the simple pleasure: making the audience laugh. Very different people, so inevitably, as we get older and become more real, we will move in different directions.
You're right Harry Potter Series, considering your experience with franchise?
OK, not true. When you do special effects, you will never meet other actors. This is a special effect shot, which is not fun. I said to director Christopher Columbus, “Is there anything good?” He would say, “I don’t know.” (laugh. ) A special effect person said to me, "Will you be surprised by the next shot?" I did. "That's really good. Can you be surprised at half the speed?" It's a man (doing) special effect - right at one end of the spectrum - never really spending any time around these people because they're so unpredictable. ((laugh)
