Mohamed Salah said Liverpool fans were wrong to Boo Trent Alexander-Arnold and insisted that the right-back deserved the "best farewell" for everything he did for his childhood club.
Alexander-Arnold left Real Madrid for a free transfer this summer after a 2-2 draw against Arsenal last Sunday.
Salah was saddened by his teammates’ reception for Arsenal and understood Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave Liverpool since he was six.
Salah told Sky movement” Gary Neville in exclusive interview before Liverpool meets Brighton Monday night football.
"I don't think he deserved it at the time, and he deserved the best way for the fans because he gave it to the fans."
The 26-year-old has made 353 appearances at Liverpool in all matches, scoring 23 goals and will win two Premier League titles and Champions League games.
Asked if the booing made him feel bad, Salah said: "Absolutely. I was surprised because it was not our behavior as Liverpool fans.
“We shouldn’t be with anyone who always appreciates people and even people who come here for six months.
"Imagine someone who gives you all 20 years. That's not the case. I hope this will change the next game against Brighton or the last game of the season because he deserves the farewell."
Salah, who signed a new contract with Virgil van Dijk in April, also expressed grief over Alexander-Arnold's departure but insisted that he has the right to seek new challenges after so many years of his life at Liverpool.
"Yesterday I told him not to give me eye contact during the farewell," Salah added.
"I really love him. I think he deserves the best farewell club. He has done a lot for the city, he has done a lot for the club and he is probably one of the best players in club history. He goes all out.
"I think he needs a new challenge. He talks to me. It's his decision. He's 25, 26, and has won two or three times. What else can he do?
“He just has to go, change and challenge himself. People don’t know about it, but he’s been in the club for 20 years.
“It’s so hard for people who have been in the club for 20 years mentally. Yes, I do love this place, but going to the same place for 20 years every day, mentally, you may feel frustrated.
"I really wish him all the best. I will always be in touch with him.
"It was his decision. I didn't try to convince him to stay because I know it's not easy to be in the club for 20 years. It's too hard.
“People think it’s easy to make a decision. That’s not the case.
"I always wanted him to join my team. People like him, you want him to join your team. But I also understand that it's not easy to stay in the same place for 20 years."
Salah contributed 46 Premier League participation to the championship in an amazing solo season and said Arne Slot's influence was key.
Salah said to the Liverpool boss’ first impression: “I think he’s having a hard time.
"If he wants something, he keeps asking you. That's tricky at the beginning, but after that, you get used to him, how he talks to you and what he wants, and things get easier."
Salah said the slot machine showed how important he is to the team when the season’s preseason warms up.
"He showed me some videos of himself during the warm-up," he said.
“The players were in the national team, I wasn’t, so I came with the younger players and started the preseason earlier and I did the warm-up.
“I’m very slow and have nothing to do.
“We had some honest conversations. He was honest and showed me some of my clips and said, ‘With this Mo we can win everything. With this Mo we won’t be able to win a lot of wins. I want to get the best from you and I hope this season can be enjoyed throughout the season and your best year.”
“I said, ‘Okay. Let me know what you want because I’m professional and I will do it.
"He didn't challenge me, he was very respectful, and I told him he was a very respected person. He treated me differently. He showed me what he wanted. (Slot says:)':)'If you want to add something, please change something with me, it's mine, it's great.
“I just feel that the new manager is coming, giving you space and thanks, keeping me all the time (let me talk about what I want to improve, what I want the team to do for me, what I want to do for the team…I think that’s what I need.
“He showed me, ‘You’re different, you’re the superstar here’ – I probably felt that was what I needed at the time.”
