Mo Salah: Liverpool’s outstanding season, Arne slots, contract talks and his prom opportunities | Football News

Mo Salah sat down with Gary Neville to reflect on how Liverpool’s Premier League champion Arne Slot helped him release the record personal figures, whether he could win his Ballon d'Or, and why he thinks he has a chance to sign a new contract with just 10%...

“I didn’t expect I would stay.”

Whether Salah will sign a new deal with Liverpool throughout the season, his contract is due to expire in the summer. But, in April, he eventually extended the pen for two years.

Neville asked him that he thought his prospects had reached a new deal at the start of the campaign.

“Based on the history of the club? Ten percent.

"The philosophy of the club, I know how they deal with over 30 players in the past. I didn't expect I would stay. It's not bad. We've seen how they deal with this in the past.

“It took six months to really go on fast, and from January, things are getting better and better. It took us a while. I think the club is testing me to see if I can still offer it!

"I don't want more, I've just said it for two years."

Now, he wants more Premier League and Champions League glory...

Salah said: “I won the Premier League this year and I don’t think I’ve been as happy at the club as I did at the Spurs at that moment.

"I really hope we win the Champions League. I know the Premier League is always good for the clubs, and that's what it should be, but I'd love to win the Champions League and the Premier League again."

Liverpool is not expected to win the Premier League this season - but Salah said it is absolutely impossible.

“I think we expect that we don’t win, it’s a problem and I think it needs to change with the players we have and the fans behind us. Liverpool’s loss should be a surprise, not the other way around.

“How many times do fans need to hear, ‘We’re going again next season’.

About Alexander-Arnold was booed by Liverpool fans

Unlike Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold chose not to sign a new contract and now may be a Liverpool native star Real Madrid. Salah shared his reaction to Alexander-Arnold at Anfield last weekend and called for a farewell to the right-back in the final game of the season.

“I think fans are harsh on him in some way.

“He didn’t deserve it at the time, he deserved the best way to treat him because he gave it to his fans.

Salah explains why it's hard to hear Liverpool fans booing while leaving Trent Alexander-Arnold and opens up his special relationship with right-back

“We shouldn’t be with anyone who always appreciates people and even people who come here for six months.

"Imagine someone who gives you all 20 years. That's not the case. I hope this will change the next game against Brighton or the last game of the season because he deserves the farewell.

"I really love him. I think he deserves the best farewell club. He has done a lot for the city, he has done a lot for the club and he is probably one of the best players in club history. He goes all out.

"I think he needs a new challenge. He talks to me. It's his decision. He's 26 years old and has won twice or three times. What else can he do?

"I really wish him all the best. I will always be in touch with him."

Ballon d'Or Dream - "There is a great opportunity to win the championship this year"

When asked if Ballon d'Or was the main goal, Salah said: "It used to drive me crazy. Something isn't in your hands, so you give up in that direction. When you go to work, you remind yourself what you want to achieve in the season so it drives you to work harder. I love winning it one day. But if you don't know, I don't know what to do.

“I’m sure there’s a great chance to win this year, but we’ll see.”

Liverpool coach Arne Slot reacted to Salah and decided to extend his contract with Liverpool and said it was a "big praise"

Salah said to the Liverpool boss’ first impression: “I think he’s having a hard time.

"If he wants something, he keeps asking you. That's tricky at the beginning, but after that, you get used to him, how he talks to you and what he wants, and things get easier."

Salah said the slot machine showed how important he is to the team when the season’s preseason warms up.

“He showed me a few videos about myself in the warm-up. Players in the national team, I didn’t start the preseason with young players very early, I did the warm-up. I was slow and didn’t do much. Then he showed me the second (player), ‘Looking at the second (player), he looked at the third line easily.

"We had some honest conversations. He was honest and showed me some of my clips and said, 'With this Mo we can win everything. With this Mo we can't win a lot of wins. I want to get the best from you, I hope this season will be available throughout the season and your best year with me.'

Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher spoke on Monday night football, breaking down how Salah became the aid king for the Premier League this season

“I said, ‘Okay, let me know what you want because I’m professional and I’ll do it.

"He didn't challenge me, he respected me very much, and I told him he was a very respected person. His treatment of me. He showed me what he wanted.

“I just feel that the new manager is coming, giving you space and thanks, keeping me going all the time (let me talk about what I want to improve, what I want the team to do for me, what I want to do for the team. I think that’s what I need.

“He shows 'You are different, you are superstar here' - I probably think that's what I needed at the time."

When Salah realized that slot machines were a special coach...

Salah's respect for the slot machines was obvious - but he said the early tactical changes in the half-time game led him to believe in the quality of the Dutch.

“In a few games in the second half, he always changed his tactics. He adapted to our opponent’s game in some way, putting Dom (Szoboszlai) in different positions and Macca (Alexis Mac Allister) in different positions. He doesn’t have that kind of self, that’s my wisdom.

About his creativity this season

Salah is the Premier League top scorer this season - but he has created 18 goals for his teammates and he is also the number one assist ranking.

"Now, I'm more involved in the footsteps of the ball and I feel confident. If you miss it, you can have it again. That's what the players need. I know I can create opportunities. Before I win the Game Console of the Year - 13 assists - 2021/22 (2021/22), I believe I have the ability, but now I can do it more easily."

Target participation records remain target

Salah has 46 goals in the Premier League this season (total goals and assists). This is the player with the most players in the 38 Premier League seasons. He is just one of Alan Shearer (1994/95) and Andy Cole (1993/94).

"I broke the 38. It's important to me. Because we slowed down, because we won the league. Lucho (Luis Diaz) missed the opportunity last week and I was like, 'Oh, please! What else can I do!' I'd love to break it."

Liverpool's bright future

“Players are new, excited, young, they learn from us and have the ability to give everything. We have a great team and we can win every trophy we want.”
