Milan 3-1 Bologna (May 9, 2025) Game Analysis

Christian Pulisic had a goal and assist, and Santiago Gimenez won two championships for AC Milan in a 3-1 win over Bolologna on Friday and maintained hopes for European football next season.

The result has improved Milan with 60 points, with Juventus three points behind fourth-placed, and they will face Lazio, sixth-placed Lazio with 63 points on Saturday. Bologna ranked seventh with 62 points. The top four will enter the Champions League respectively, and the fifth and sixth teams are eligible for the Europa League and Conference League respectively.

The match also serves as a rehearsal for Wednesday's Coppa Italian final, with both sides once again facing each other at the iconic stadium of Olimpico in Rome.

Having won, Milan scored 22 points in a failed position this season - only Madrid's Atlettoto has a higher total in five European leagues, with 23 points.

Milan head coach Sergio Concecaio told Sky Sport Italia: "From tomorrow we will start preparing for Coppa Italia in Italy. We have to learn from what we do and what we don't do because there are negative impacts and motivation tonight."

He added: "I hope these two teams are different, but it's the finals and sometimes the teams that didn't play their best football ended up winning."

Milan was frightened when defender Fikayo Tomori knocked a nasty knock in the opening minutes, first hitting the back of the Bologna player. The British defender looked drowsy and was forced to leave soon after, seemingly struggling with a potential head injury.

The host had motivation in the first half, with Pulisic and Luka Jovic making up for the opportunity, but they couldn't find a breakthrough. Bologna is still dangerous on the counter, but both sides are stuck in the pointlessness of breaking through.

Four minutes after the break, Riccardo Orsolini cut off from the right and drilled Bologna into the front.

However, Gimenez is equalized in the 73rd minute, and after Pulisic sets him in the box, he evenly with a cool effect.

Two minutes later, the second goal of the Argentina-born Mexican international was not allowed, but another goal seemed inevitable as Milan moved forward. Four minutes later, it was once again involved in Pulisic.

Joao Felix's 79th minute shot was blocked, but it was perfect for the American, who calmly sent the ball home from 12 meters.

Gimenez was excellent in his performance during the stopping period when he made room for himself in the box and finished second and third in Milan.
