As the team enters the second week of the Organized Team Event (OTA), the NFL offseason parades. After this week, the team will be with the start of a small training camp, which is the first part of the offseason.
It’s no surprise that the players aren’t on the Otas court, but the mini camp is another story. Players may be fined for missing time.
One of the biggest storylines to get into the mini camp is the future of Dallas Cowboys star Edge Rush (Micah Parsons). He is signing his final year of a rookie contract and hopes to make an extension with the team to secure his future in Dallas.
He knew for a week from the mini camp and he wouldn't miss the mandatory part of offseason training.
"I'll be there!" Parsons wrote in a post on X on June 3. "I haven't missed a mini camp for 4 years! Even if the contract isn't finished, I have teammates and a script! I'm preparing for it as if I'll be on the scene on the first week of the camp! But it's already in the hands of the owner. I'm ready to win the Super Bowl!"
This responded to comments from cowboy coach Brian Schottenheimer earlier in the day.
"Micha and I were chatting a few days ago," Schottenheimer said. "Again, he was doing some travel, but (everything I've talked to him and me, I hope he'll be here (for mandatory mini camps)."
Parsons participated in the Cowboys' voluntary offseason program in April.
"Micha and I have a good communication," Schottenheimer said. "Everything I asked him to do - and vice versa - he followed. So, I hope to see him."
Parsons enters its fifth year of a rookie deal signed after the 2021 NFL Draft. Due to his career performance so far, he currently intends to make $24 million in 2025, which is completely guaranteed.
During the offseason, multiple other edge sprinters have signed up for profitable expansions. Las Vegas's Maxx Crosby signed a three-year, $106.5 million extension in March to be with the Raiders. A few days later, Myles Garrett signed Cleveland Browns for a record four-year, $160 million extension.
Parsons will be the latest to sign the extension. But if he doesn't, he will be the highest free agent in the offseason in 2026.
