Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi both scored two goals and beat Inter Miami 4-2 at Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday night.
Miami International (7-3-5, 26 points) has won for the second time in the last nine games. In the MLS game, this also ended a four-game winning streak, ranking sixth in the Eastern Conference.
"Obviously, we talked about the need to change the negative momentum in the press conference yesterday. "I had a great feeling for the players in the second half against Philadelphia (a 3-3 draw on Saturday), not only because of the results, but also because you always have to fight who you are, the competitors who are at the forefront of our conference.
“So, now I’m happy for the win, I’m happy because the team got used to us again during the good moments of the game.”
Montreal's last place (1-10-5, 8 points) lost the second time in the last three games.
Suarez has not scored since Miami won his last victory on May 3, with only two goals in the MLS game this season. He doubled back to back in the 68th and 71st minutes, proving the key to Miami.
"The most important thing is to win again," Suarez said after the game. "We are getting a losing streak, and for that we have to be responsible for the results, it's about correcting, winning and returning to being a victory for our team."
Suarez's first goal was founded by Messi's excellent drama, who took possession near the finish line and attracted a defender before looping the ball to the wide open Suárez in front of the goal.
Suarez comfortably fired a shot at Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois.
Three minutes later, Suárez entered the game, intercepted a poorly controlled ball by Montreal's George Campbell and drove another shot over Sirois, giving Inter Miami a 3-0 win.
Dante Sealy of Montreal beats Miami’s clean sheets in a Miami house. This is Sealy's second goal this season.
But Montreal's slim hopes come back when Messi shot from Suárez's exact cross in the 87th minute.
Messi achieved his first goal in the 27th minute when Sergio Busquets threw the ball near the box. The World Cup champion kicked the ball to the top of the box and opened a long-distance shot through Sirois.
Mascherano praised Messi for being like him after most Miami games, but he also specifically mentioned his other veteran forward Suarez.
"As for Louis, I'm very happy for him. He has a lot of goals in his career. Sometimes he doesn't have a chance to play a few games without scoring," Mascherano said. "I think it must be weird. But Louis has another part, working hard, craving, never trying to put his arms down. It's also very important when it comes to impacting the team. Hopefully they can continue this dynamic."
Sealy scored an assist with Fernandoálvarez, with Victor Loturi's second goal in the second minute of downtime.
The Miami International win came at a price, as a team already played three starters in the game without midfielder Yannick Bright - Jordi Alba, Gonzalo Lujan and Tomas Aviles - all left the game in the first half due to injury.
