Meta lures TikTok creators with $5,000 bonus, content deals, free verification

Meta attracts TikTok creators to its platform by promising cash rewards, content deals, and support for growing the community. Eligible TikTok creators will be able to earn "up to" $5,000 over three months for posting Reels on Facebook and Instagram, the company announced Tuesday.

These creators will also have access to the Facebook Content Monetization Program, which allows creators to make money from their videos, photos and text posts on Facebook. In addition, Meta will provide content offers to some TikTok creators to help grow their audiences on Instagram and Facebook.

Some TikTok creators will also get a one-year trial of Meta Verified, which includes a verified badge, account support and impersonation protection. (The company did not disclose the criteria for who will gain access).

Although TikTok is back online in the United States after a 12-hour shutdown over the weekend, the ByteDance-owned social network is still missing from app stores. Although President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday delaying the TikTok ban by 75 days and told the Justice Department not to enforce the ban's penalties, it's unclear when (or if) the app will return to Apple and Google 's app store.

Meta is apparently taking advantage of TikTok's current troubles by poaching and luring some of the service's creators.

The company also said it is making changes to Reels to make the short video format more attractive to TikTok creators. For example, US-based Instagram creators can now post Reels for up to three minutes, a significant increase from the previous 90-second limit. However, on TikTok, creators can record videos up to 10 minutes long and, in some cases, upload content up to an hour long.

Additionally, Meta will give Reels more prominence as the company plans to feature Reels in more places on Facebook and Instagram. For example, people might start seeing recommended reels in their family feeds. Plus, they might see more reels in search results.

To further attract TikTok creators, Meta notes that it has optimized its ranking system to allow new creators to break into new audiences.

Meta also allows creators to display their Instagram, TikTok or YouTube username and follower count on their Facebook profile to increase their credibility on their platform.

Meta has made other changes to take advantage of TikTok's current uncertainty in the U.S.

On Sunday, Meta revealed that it will launch a Capcut-like app called Edits next month. On Friday, it rolled out an update that makes it easier for Instagram users to find Reels that their friends and followers like on the platform. The app will also encourage users to start conversations about Reels through a new "Reply Bar."
