Memorial trade idea provides Lakers with talented wings and centers

The Los Angeles Lakers’ roster may change this summer. The team's center rotation was very weak, and Luka Doncic lacked defender and wing depth after the trade, both of which were lost to Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

It is not easy for the Lakers to make one or two trades to solve these two flaws. But Fadeaway World's Eddie Bitar came up with a huge trade idea involving three teams that would quarantine the Lakers two players who could stuff both.

In this deal, they will abandon guard Austin Reaves and move forward to Dorian Finney-Smith, both currently members of the Heat, while receiving Wing Andrew Wiggins and center Kel'el Ware.

By Fadeaway World:

“Wigkins averaged 44.8% from the game and averaged 18.0 points per game in the 2024-25 season, bringing his versatile defense and scoring ability to the wing position,” Bitar wrote. “His experience and athleticism complements Doncic’s entertainment and (LeBron) James’ leadership, especially considering his MVP finals in the 2022 NBA Finals.

“Kel'el Ware is a promising 21-year-old center that adds youth and athleticism in the Lakers’ frontcourt. During his rookie season, Ware scored 9.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game, shooting 55.4 percent from the field.

“His appearance addressed the Lakers’ need for a dynamic big man who could protect the edge and finish the game around the rim. He would undoubtedly immediately upgrade to the game that the Lakers played in center last season: Jaxson Hayes and Alex Len.

“This deal allows the Lakers to balance the roster by adding an experienced wing and an emerging center, providing Don Sic and James with the support they need in the competitive Western Conference.”

For Reaves that can be better suited to the Lakers than Reaves, Wiggins may be a good alternative. Although he is not a minor player or facilitator for the Reaves, his three-pointers are as reliable as the undrafted defender. Wiggins, who has made 37.4% of his 5.8 three-point attempt this season, is a sports wing that can go out and maintain a high level of defense during transitions, two things that fight the Reaves.

While he's three-pointer than Finney-Smith, given the fact that James and Rui Hachimura play 4 primarily, he can fit in Los Angeles well. When they won the 2022 NBA championship, his significant contribution as the Golden State Warriors was not injured either.

Ware was the 15th pick in the NBA draft last year, weighing 230 pounds and 7 feet tall. Nbadraft.NET's scout report on him said he had "typical size, length and athleticism at the center of the NBA", his floor was good, rebounded well and blocked the shot. However, the same reconnaissance report also expressed concern about his determination, focus and manner.
