First lady Melania Trump announced Friday that the president's fiscal year 2026 budget will include $25 million in foster youth investment.
The funds will be used in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Independent Program to support young people who are transitioning from foster care. This will provide them with housing, according to a press release from the First Lady’s office.
"I am honored to successfully receive $25 million to provide housing for individuals aged from foster care," the first lady said in a press release.

“This is another fundamental measure to ensure the safety, welfare and autonomy of people in the foster care community,” she added.
The investment marks the seventh anniversary of the First Lady’s “Best” initiative, where she began promoting the well-being of children in the first Trump administration.

Mrs. Trump added: “Secretary Scott Turner’s commitment will transition from the foster care system to thousands of young people and provide dedicated rental assistance and other support services to promote stability and self-sufficiency.”
HUD Secretary Scott Turner thanked the First Lady for her work and dedication to the foster youth.

“I’m so grateful to the First Lady for her efforts as she is committed to helping foster youth in our country through her best initiatives and advocating a public-private partnership that changes life every day,” Turner said.
He added: “This dedicated funding for foster youth is a game-changer that can provide short-term housing assistance and support services to young people, which will prevent homelessness.”

President Trump earlier signed the May 2025 presidential announcement marked National Foster Care Month.
“I’m happy to join my husband in honor of families, caregivers and advocates who provide shelter, stability and inspiration for our children,” she said in a press release at the time.

President Trump signed the Family First Preventive Services Act as a law during his first administration, which aims to prevent children from entering foster care by providing funding for evidence-based prevention services.
