McDonald's announces hiring 375,000 people this summer
This is the company's largest employment initiative since 2020
The announcement comes after two consecutive quarters of Fast Food Giant losses
McDonald's announced on Monday that it plans to hire 375,000 new employees this summer. The announcement was first released in a press conference with U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Deremer, marking the company's largest job plan in five years.
According to media reports, new employees will help fill the gap in the company's more than 13,500 American restaurants. They will also help McDonald's plans to open 900 new restaurants nationwide over the next two years.

McDonald's is one of the largest employers in the country, and the company claims it has hired about the employers that are employed in every eight Americans. “I often consider my time as general manager in restaurants and it’s clear that crew members are the core and soul of the brand,” Ellinger said in a statement. “They go beyond our customers and it’s our job to take care of them and create opportunities for them.”
The Jobs Initiative comes weeks after McDonald's reported a second straight quarter decline in sales. In its first-quarter earnings report released on May 1, the company said its global sales fell by 1% and U.S. sales fell by 3.6%. On earnings calls later that day, CEO Chris Kempczinski and CFO Ian Borden attributed the decline to a pullback in low-income consumer spending.
