The Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Draft Lottery in a loud manner on Monday and selected Duke's Cooper Flagg in June to take the No. 1 overall draft pick and won the trade with Luka Doncic with accompanying rights.
According to ESPN Research, the Mavericks had only 1.8% chance to win the lottery and jumped 10 positions to get the first pick, the biggest improvement of any team in lottery history.
The unlikely win in the lottery came three months after Dallas traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, a move that has attracted widespread criticism from the fan base.
"It's been a tough year for us," said four-time NBA All-Star Rolando Blackman. "But the important part of the whole process is that we will have the opportunity to move our franchise forward." We have huge staff and management. Our important factor is being able to continue this tradition and being able to move forward. This is indeed a huge honor. This is indeed an important puzzle as we have been landing hoops in Dallas. ”
San Antonio - Will be second in the rookie of the year for Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, Philadelphia will be third and Charlotte will be fourth.
Flagg, a 6-foot-9 striker at Duke, has been considered a leader in the draft since August 2023 when he announced his decision to graduate one year early and attend a college at a 17-year-old.
Despite being one of the most anticipated freshmen to enter the college game in several years, Flagg won nearly all National Player of the Year awards, with an average of 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, and led the Blue Devils (35-4) to their final four games.
It is expected to be drafted after Flagg, a pair of freshmen from Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey's Rutgers, who will be heavily studied by the team behind various Mavericks.
Harper is a 6-foot-6 point guard who broke the freshman scoring record at Rutgers while becoming the fifth highest scorer in the Big Ten conference. His outstanding golfer skills, conveying creativity, completing skills and overall scoring make him a strong candidate for early drafting.
After Harper, a group of players including Bailey, Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe, Texas Wing Trey Johnson, Oklahoma State guard Jeremaiah Fears and Duke Center Khaman Maluach will compete for the June 25 name.
Utah (17-65), Washington (18-64) and Charlotte (19-63) entered the night, and the best chance was to win the lottery, matching the four-digit combination of lottery table tennis with a 14% shot, the lottery machine spitted out a combination of four numbers followed by New Orleans (21-61), or 12.5%.
Utah will be ranked fifth, with Washington sixth, New Orleans seventh, Brooklyn eighth, Toronto ninth, Houston tenth, Portland, 11th, Chicago twelfth, Atlanta, Atlanta 13th and San Antonio 14th.
