Fountain Springs - Noah Mateyak closed Tri-Valley's Bats in 7 innings, Luke Kane and Cooper Ansbach each ran twice, leading Tamaqua to a 4-0 Shulkirkill League title at North Schuylkill High School on Thursday.
It marks Tamaqua (21-1) won the Schulkirkir League title for the second time after defeating the Blue Mountains 6-0 at the end of last season.
"It's great, and I'm proud of these guys," said Tamaqua head coach Jeff Reading. "They had a chance last year, and this year we had a goal, and they advanced to that opportunity."
Mateyak allowed only two basic runners to play all and sat down the Bulldogs (17-6) 1-2-3 in each of the first five innings for the full match. The Blue Raider allowed only seven hits to hit in one hit.
“We have a piece of paper that reminds us to always be successful and I achieved that,” Mateyak said. “We know we want to come back and defend our title.”
Kane was big for the Blue Raiders, bringing in the runs in the first and fourth innings, and then Ansbach drove twice late in the game.
"I was waiting to see how fast today, it was on the speed, and he hung it in the middle of the area, I capitalized it," Kane said. "The opportunity was there, so I drove."
After Mateyak sat on top of Tri-Valley, Kane shot a flight into the midfield, defeating Mason Ligenza to lead 1-0.
In the next two innings, the Blue Raiders took the foundation in the next two innings before Kane hit Ligenza's fly ball to the left for a 2-0 advantage.
“If there were runners at the base, I would go to the plate to think about line drives and base knocks to attract these guys,” Kane said. “It was a good momentum for us.”
After a batsman, Ansbach stood up and grounded an RBI single to the midfield to take Kane to a 3-0 lead.
Ansbach gave the final blow to Tamaqua’s score at the bottom of sixth, when he singled the left field on a fly ball and scored Ligenza with a 4-0 lead.
"I wish we could get more running, but that's big," Reading said. "He (Kain) is one of our best batsmen, his handshake at different times."
Mateyak ended his outing on the mound with a 4-0 victory in seventh place.
"This is a great team that ended with them (Tri-Valley) 1-1 this season," Mateyak said. "The coach made sure I hit my spot."
Kane led Tamaqua's bats in doubles and two RBIs, while Ansbach drove on two runs, earning a total of three hits. Landon Kamant made two more hits.
Tamaqua scored the scoring positions in the first, second, third and fifth innings, but put them in a strait to keep the ball's distance. The Blue Raiders had 10 hits instead of the Bulldogs.
