Don't blame Thanos: 'Marvel Snap' is a victim of the U.S. government's ban on TikTok over concerns about its Chinese parent company.
TikTok was not the only one flashed offline to U.S. users on Saturday, just hours before the Jan. 19 deadline under the U.S. "strive or ban" law against TikTok. At least 10 apps owned by ByteDance were also banned on Saturday night because U.S. law prohibits them from being distributed in the country unless the Beijing-based company sells them, including "Marvel Snap," One originally came from a studio owned by Disney.
On Saturday night, "Marvel Snap", developed by Second Dining and published by ByteDance's Nuverse gaming unit, was removed from the Apple and Google app stores, with a message to players that the game was temporarily unavailable.
"Unfortunately, MARVEL SNAP is temporarily unavailable on the U.S. App Store and unplayable in the U.S.," Seconddinner said in a statement released late Saturday. “To the surprise of Second Dining and our publisher Nuverse, MARVEL SNAP was affected by TikTok’s delisting on the night of Saturday, January 18th. MARVEL SNAP is not going anywhere. We are actively working to launch the game as soon as possible as soon as we have We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.”
"Marvel Snap" will be released in October 2022. Here's how Marvel describes the game: "The fastest card battle game in the multiverse is here! Assemble your Marvel dream team from a super roster of your favorite heroes and villains and take action." MARVEL SNAP" transforms the entire Marvel universe into a fast-paced and exciting strategic card battle game."
