Ruben Amorim accepts his job will be threatened if he can't fix Manchester United's Premier League form as his side lost 2-0 to defeat West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In an encouraging post-match press conference, Amorim admitted that he was "embarrassed" by Manchester United's position on the table, was shocked by the players' attitude and questioned whether he was the one who turned the club around.
His team - No. 16 in the Premier League - will have the lowest league results since relegated to the second tier in 1974.
"How should Manchester United managers feel in this position? It's embarrassing and difficult to accept," Amorim said.
“For me, my biggest concern is that it feels OK.
"We can't have that much status, so it's OK. It's the biggest problem in our club because we lose the feeling of being a huge club, it's the end of the world to lose a game at home.
“I think this is the biggest concern in our club.”
Asked if he felt there was a "cultural issue" in the squad, Amorim said: "I think it's a feeling. I won't talk about culture, but it's a feeling, it's the most dangerous feeling we have in a big club.
"I have this feeling, there is a lack of urgency in everything we do. It's a big problem."
Amorim guided Manchester United to the Europa League final, but has won only six Premier League games since being appointed as head coach in November.
The 40-year-old has a contract by 2027, but suggests that he won't be able to turn things around quickly.
"I don't want to talk about players. I'm talking about myself," he said.
“I’m talking about the culture of the club and the culture of the team.
"We need to be really strong and brave in the summer. If we start like this, we won't have seasons like this. If the feeling is still here, we should make room for different people."
United played another league match against Chelsea on Friday before facing Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League on May 21.
There is a trophy and Champions League football in the match in Bilbao, although Amorim suggests that the club may not be ready to return to the top game in Europe.
"I don't care about the finals, it's by far the smallest issue in our club," he said.
“We need to change things that are deeper than that. At the end of the season, we are the moon for us in the Premier League and the Champions League. We need to know that, I don’t care about the finals.
"I don't know what's the best. If it's going to be in the Champions League. So let's consider Chelsea to improve a lot of things."
