Manchester City striker Phil Foden admitted his side's defense of the Premier League title is over after Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Brentford.

Foden, 24, scored twice heading into the final 20 minutes to give City a commanding lead before goals from Eoin Wiesa and Christian Norgaard in the 82nd and 92nd minutes respectively, as Guardiola added The team dropped points for the 11th time in 21 games this season.

By comparison, City failed to win 10 times throughout the 2023-24 season before claiming a fourth successive league title.

"Champions? Yes, yes, it's done, it's done," Foden replied when asked about his side's support for Eurosport. "We know that. We are not stupid. So we have to aim for the top four, which is the next goal from time to time and obviously the Champions League. So the season is not over."

"We have to be realistic, don't we? We haven't performed well enough to get there. Top four is our target now and then see where we can get in the other trophies. We can't dwell on that. "We have to now Try to get in the top four and get things done. "

The England international added that he was not used to not being involved in the title race at this stage, having been a regular in Manchester City's first-team squad in all but one of his seasons.

"I've never been in this situation before, I've lost so many games and I've never been in this situation," he said. "So it's been a learning curve and it's just about how to get back to the best, not just me, but the whole team. And how we bounce back from that. "I believe in, I still believe in the team, you know, I still Believe that we can do good things.

"It's about getting back on the training ground and having that belief, keeping going and not giving up. We've been the best in the last few seasons and when we face our opponents we can see how much better they have." Get ready again. We have to try to do that, if not better, but at the moment we are falling short. "

The draw at the GTech Community Stadium was Foden's 294th game for City and he said the team had become better able to deal with Guardiola's methods, especially as injuries continue to mount in the squad.

"I think that's the challenge this year, how everyone adapts to our style of play, which makes things very difficult," he said. "That's one of the things I've learned. We don't have the biggest lineup, but we can Really no excuses.

"We're used to playing most games every year now and we didn't get stuck in the past. The next game is always around the corner so you have to keep your head up and start over. So, it's something worth working on and at least the performances are picking up ”

City will hope to get back to winning ways against Ipswich Town on Sunday before a big Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
