A man died after a shooting in a Carlo County shopping mall.
PA News Agency knows that it seems that the wounds of the deceased are self-harm.
A young girl was also injured in the incident but did not require hospital care and it is not clear how she was injured.
Gardai identified the deceased as a white Irish male.
Ireland's Attorney General Jim O'Callaghan described it as a "really shocking event".
A local councillor told people how to fear from the shopping mall in Carlo Town when shooting.
The person's body remained at the scene until the area was declared safe and would not be deleted.
The mall was evacuated and emergency services were still on site, but Gady said there was no further concern about public safety.
A Garda spokesman said they were told that there had been reports of gun releases at Fairgreen Mall shortly after 6.15 p.m.
The spokesman said: "Angarda Síochaná is currently on the scene, with shopping malls and parking lots blocked. The cordon will remain at the scene overnight. A white Irish adult male died at the scene.
“The Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the Army’s explosion has been asked to participate.”
Simon Harris, deputy leader of Ireland, said he was "very worried" and added: "I know a toddler was hurt, and I was with people all over the country thinking about them and their families tonight.
"I'm also thinking about all the people who have witnessed this situation, and the horrible shock and frustration it must have caused. I know their families and communities will gather to support them. I'm grateful for our emergency services and their work and responses."
"It's a very shocking event. My idea is that everyone, community and family affected by the shootings are affected, including those working on the scene.
“This is something we never want or expect to happen in our community. Gun violence is very rare in Ireland and I am sure that will be the case. The area of Carlo is safe. “We must now allow An Garda Síochanna to fully investigate this incident. ”
Fergal Browne, a local senior Gaelic MP, said: "People are obviously scared, Sunday's bank holiday, going shopping in towns. People run from the center to cry and be upset.
“There is a group of foreign students in the area who can’t believe they are in a dilemma in the middle of all of this.
"It's a busy place. We opened a photography exhibition there in the mall on Friday night."
Brown added: "There is a lot of activity in the center between shopping and people working there. It's very frustrating for everyone who is involved or witnessing it. I was there for the last hour and it seems to be a lot calmer now."
Brown said he wanted to thank all the emergency services that had been on site.
