"Make sure they can't get rid of me"

Tyus aims to show "work hard, hard, perseverance, ruthlessness" to stick to the lion

Anthony Tyus III is one of 10 undrafted rookie free agents signed by the Detroit Lions after the 2025 NFL draft. Ohio Bobcats Run shows why Detroit is interested in Friday’s rookie mini-training camp.

Tyus is a powerful style, in the depth list, in the molds of two lions in front of David Montgomery and Craig Reynolds, in the two lions in front of him. At Friday's rookie mini camp, the 6-1 pound 225 pound Tyus demonstrated a decisive acceleration and a aggressive style of dance-free.

It was Tyus’ dream to wear a lion-style uniform, a man from the Kalamazoo area two hours west of Detroit.

"It's so nice (put on the jersey)," Tees said with a smile. “Wearing this Honolulu blue, nothing like it.”

Tyus spent several seasons in the Northwest before moving to his final year in Ohio. He helped lead the Bobcats to a Mac title at Ford Field, rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown at Ohio State 38-3.

“The Lions are my hometown team,” Thes told me after Friday’s practice. "I'm very excited. My friends are very excited. My parents are very excited."

Tyus continues

"All you need is an opportunity, and that's what I have. I'm ready to be with it... God puts me in the right place at the right time."

Tyus wins more with balance, aggression and rhythm than with speed. These qualities may be difficult to focus on in unfinished practice classes. Tyus knows it has something to do with Detroit's efforts.

When asked what he needed to show to hold on to the lion, Thes did not hesitate,

"Try hard. Work hard. Perseverance. Relentless. Make sure they can't get rid of me."

As a fellow Ohio Bobcat fellow, I need to ask him how long he was in Athens to teach him.

“Ohio allowed me to show off my abilities, not only was I a big back, but my big back could be agile and moved outside the box.”

Tyus' engaging smile didn't leave his face as he pointed out: "The choice of coach (RB coach Tashard) knows my hand." Tyus dragged 34 yards on three passes and scored a touchdown in Ohio State's bowl win over Jacksonville State.

Tyus is working to be the fifth RB for the Lions, which is usually on the practice team. On Friday, he beat Kye Robichaux, a more compact UDFA signer from Boston College. This is a promising start for the smart player, and once the mat lights up, he should look better.
