Atlanta's brave starter Chris Sale beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3 at Citizen Bank Park Thursday night, surpassing any pitcher in MLB history.
Sale, 36, beat Phillies' third baseman Edmundo Sosa, and his iconic Wipeout Slider ended the sixth inning.
Sales exceeded 2,500 hits in 2,026 innings, breaking Randy Johnson's record of 2,107 innings.
Sale threw six innings, earning just two hits and three walks, and hitting eight hits in the win.

Sales became the 40th pitcher in Major League Baseball history, reaching 2,500 strikeouts, joining Clayton Kershaw, Justin Welander and Max Shezer as the only active pitcher to reach the plateau.
The eight-time All-Star game led the National League with 225 strikeouts last season, winning his first career Cy Young.

Sale spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Chicago White Sox and was traded to the Boston Red Sox. Sale is part of the 2018 Red Sox that won the World Series.
Before the 2024 season began, Sale spent six seasons with the Red Sox.

The Phillies played doubles with the Braves and separated them. The Phillies won the first game 5-4 before the Braves bounced back on a strong outing in Sale.
The Braves (26-29) started the Red Sox (27-31) three-game series at 7:15 PM ET. The Phillies (36-20) begins a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers (29-28) at 6:45 pm EST Friday at 6:45 pm EST.
